The winter issue of Broadsheet Journal features artist profiles by Sophie Knezic (Christian Thompson), Amelia Winata (Megan Cope and Emily Floyd) and Andy Best (Christian Lock). Reviews include Tessa Zettel’s penetrating assessment of the Athens component of documenta 14, Chari Larsson’s refreshing take on The National, Mary-Jean Richardson’s reflections on Versus Rodin and Paola Anselmi on WA photography. Characterised by multiple, inter-connected strands, Giles Fielke’s substantial essay ‘Movies in the Museum: The Paaracinematic Gaze’ and an examination of the controversy surrounding Dana Schutz’s work at the 2017 Whitney Biennial. Finally, Lana Lopesi interviews Tina Baum, curator of Defying Empire, who says; ‘knowing that Indigenous artists have a strong voice that will be heard, that their voices will not be stifled or suppressed is a very powerful tool.’ It is a voice, which is exemplified by the issue’s striking cover image of Archie Moore’s United Neytions (2017).
