iOS 8 Upgrade

Apple recently release it's latest iOS version for iPhone, iPads and iPod Touch. iOS 8 promises many more features and enhancements. In this lesson we will learn how to upgrade the iOS on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch device.

You should automatically be taken to the General settings section. If not, tap on the General section, then tap on the Software Update button.

Tap the settings icon on your device.

If your device can be updated to iOS8, a message like this will appear, “Download and Install�. If this message does not appear your device probably does not support an iOS 8 upgrade. When you see this upgrade option, tap on the Download and Install button. The process will not erase your phone or remove any of your information.

A Terms and Conditions dialogue will display. Tap on the Agree option.

The download is 859 MB so it will take some time to download. It is recommended that your device is connected to a WiFi connection for faster download.

Since the download could take some time, Apple provides a message letting you know that you will be notified when the download is ready for installation. It won't automatically install.

When the software is ready to install, you will receive a notification. Tap on the Install option.

The Terms and Conditions might display again. Tap on the Agree option.

The software download will be verified to make sure it isn't damaged, and the installation will begin. Please be patient because the upgrade can take up to a half hour or more depending on the speed of your device. Newer devices will take less time than older devices due to the faster processor on newer devices.

After installation is done your device will restart and you will be prompted to setup the device for the new iOS.

Tap on the continue button to finish the update.

Make sure to enable location services so you can find the device if it is ever lost or stolen.

Enter your iCloud password and tap the next button at the top of the screen.

Your iCloud will be updated with the most recent version of iCloud which is now called iCloud Drive.

Verify the iMessage and FaceTime settings and tap the next button in the upper right.

iCloud is being upgrade to iCloud Drive. This step will let you upgrade to iCloud Drive. If you upgrade now, you will need to upgrade all your devices to iCloud Drive. If you don't update other devices, they will not be able to access iCloud. If you can't update other devices to iOS 8 and these devices use iCloud then I wouldn't recommend you update to iCloud Drive. If you're not sure tap on the Not Now option. You can always update later.

If you chose to update to iCloud drive, then a message will display to let you know that other devices will not be able to access documents in iCloud until they are also updated to iOS 8. Tap Continue.

Tap on Get Started.

Your iCloud will be updated to iCloud Drive but it will take some time. If you go to Settings and tap on iCloud, you will see that iCloud Drive is in the process of upgrading.

When the process is complete, iCloud Drive will indicate that it is On. Now you need to update all your mobile devices to iOS 8 so they are all able to take advantage of iCloud Drive. Until you do, devices will give a warning about accessing iCloud Drive.
