The Temple Church Choir of 12 choir men and 18 boy-choristers shot to prominence with the commission and premiere of John Tavener’s allnight musical vigil The Veil of the Temple. The centrepiece of this festive programme is Britten’s delightful A Ceremony of Carols. Bach composed his oratorio in six parts for performance in two Leipzig churches over the Christmas season of 1734. Parts 1 to 3 depict the birth of Jesus, the appearance of the angelic host and the adoration of the shepherds. The tenor soloist sings the words of St Luke’s gospel, aided by the choir as angels and shepherds, and the significance of the Nativity is explored in reflective arias and chorales. From the exultant trumpets and drums of the opening and closing movements to the serene Pastoral Sinfonia, the oratorio is enriched by Bach’s vivid orchestration. (Sung in German.)

Ravel Le tombeau de Couperin Mozart Concerto for Two Pianos in E flat, K. 365 Dvorˇák Legends, Op. 59 Ravel Mother Goose Suite Behzod Abduraimov and Stanislav Ioudenitch pianos Andrew Litton conductor The delicate colours and nuances of Ravel’s Le tombeau de Couperin offer a gentle commemoration of the anniversary of World War One; Ravel had dedicated each movement in the original piano version to a friend who had died in the conflict. Behzod Abduraimov, first prizewinner of the London International Piano Competition and his teacher Stanislav Ioudenitch, gold medallist in the Van Cliburn Piano Competition play Mozart’s Concerto for Two Pianos and after a selection of Dvorˇák’s folksong-based Legends the orchestra returns to Ravel and enters the enchanted world of the Mother Goose Suite.
Beethoven Fidelio Overture Beethoven Triple Concerto Beethoven Symphony No. 7 Freddy Kempf conductor/piano Clio Gould violin Tim Gill cello A must for Beethoven devotees, this programme is directed by pianist and conductor Freddy Kempf, who also performs in the Triple Concerto alongside celebrated violinist Clio Gould and Principal Cellist Tim Gill. Beethoven’s exhilarating Fidelio Overture is a tour de force of orchestral virtuosity. Fidelio, his only opera, generated four overtures; after the three weighty Leonore overtures, Beethoven wanted to write something with a more adventurous spirit, and this joyous piece was the result. The programme culminates in the regal, Seventh Symphony, famous for its slow movement (used in the film The King’s Speech), which gradually builds from a soft opening into music of thrilling grandeur.

GETTING TO CADOGAN HALL The easiest way to travel to Cadogan Hall is by public transport. Located two minutes walk from Sloane Square Tube, served by District and Circle lines, just one stop from Victoria station which has both mainline and additional Tube connections.

Wheelchair users If you use a wheelchair and wish to transfer to a seat, we regret we may not be able to provide a member of staff to help you physically. However, we will arrange for your wheelchair to be taken away and stored. A lift is located to the right once inside the Box Office reception allowing access to a lowered Box Office counter. Foyer areas are on the same level as the Box Office and the foyer bar (Oakley Room) is accessed via a wide access lift. Seats within the stalls are accessed via a wide lift as are adapted toilet facilities. The Gallery Please note the lift provides access to all levels except the gallery seating areas. Gallery seating can only be accessed via the main stairwell. When travelling to and from the gallery seating areas please allow sufficient time in order to be seated at an appropriate time. Customers with hearing requirements The Box Office counter is fitted with a loop system to aid customers with any hearing impairment. The auditorium is fitted with an infra-red amplification system. This is not the same as a Loop System so switching your hearing aid to ‘T’ is not sufficient. You will need to use an amplification aid. Customers with sight impairment Guide dogs are welcome to access the hall and auditorium but please do let us know prior to arriving at the hall so we may make any special arrangements if necessary.
