Sue DeGennaro – Author, Artist and Illustrator
TUTOR PROFILE
Course: Writing Children’s Picture Books Sue is a woman of many talents. Her whimsical illustration style has not only seen her work published in a 14 children’s books to date, but also win a number of prestigious awards. The Pros and Cons of Being a Frog, which she wrote and illustrated, has won many impressive accolades since its release in 2012, including the Early Childhood Shortlist 2013 in the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book of the Year Awards. Sue’s love of drawing started in school but she only recently decided to pick up her pencils again to pursue her passion. The move clearly paid off! Before she was wowing children with her quirky imagination, Sue had another unique job: dazzling circus audiences as an aerialist and performance artist. As part of an all‑women’s flying trapeze troupe, her act took her across Australia and abroad. Nowadays, Sue is more at home indulging her passion for drawing, while pushing herself creatively with plans to move more into writing. To balance this act, Sue loves Japanese food and is a big fan of author and writer Miranda July, especially the film, You, Me and Everyone Else and book, It Chooses You.
