Hi, I’m Miriam. I’m a Fashion designer. I graduated from Politecnico di Milano in July 2018 and I’ve worked as a textile print designer at Cotonificio Albini from January 2019 to December 2020. As a print designer I used to develop both digital and traditional printings and colorways in the special project team. I’m passionate about fashion and innovation, always striving to a more sustainable way of doing things. Even though I’ve worked as a print designer for a while, I always tried to find time to mantain my sewing and clothes creating skills sharp; thanks to that curiosity during my “unemploymet” period I’ve opened a YouTube channel on which I share my sewing and pattern making skills and where I share my thougts and knowledge about sustainability in fashion.

In this portfolio I’m presenting some projects from my textile printing experience as well as some University and YouTube ones. Enjoy!

I arrived at Cotonificio Albini 6 months after getting my Fashion Design Degree, there I used to develop both digital and traditional printings and colorways mainly on Photoshop in the special project team: we cured original designs for our clients following their colour and theme requests. From time to time I used to find myself creating repetitions from old archive scan or client illustrations. I therefore developped an eye for rapport creation and became proficent in NeoTextil plug-in: nT Rapport. Working there I had the opportunity to work with many important brands and well known names of the fashion industry covering different market areas, both Geography-wise, from Europe, to Asia, to US, and market-wise, from luxury to fast fashion. Since January 2021 I’ve been working on my YouTube channel F.Restyler, where I share my knowedge abut sewing, pattern making and upcycling. As I grew more and more concious about sustainability in fashion I also started a tiny column about sustainability and I grew incredibly passonate about it. I decided to open my channel in Italian, because there weren’t many other people doing it, in my mother tongue; It was not the easiest solution, but I’m happy with my decision. In the last year I shared about 30 videos and created about 20 new pieces of clothing from racycled fabrics or upcycled garments.

WORK PROJECTS TEXTILE PRINT DESIGN In this chapter you’ll see some projects I developed and followed as a textile print designer of the special project team in Albini.

These are a few prints from the SS2021 collection. These drawing were all made with the client logo. I’ve had the opportunity to work with Eden Park for many seasons and for each I developped some new designs, as the one in this page, but also redesignerd some of the Albini collection prints, as the client likes to choose some designs from their collections and asks to put its logo in it, to make them look more in brand, in these pages you’ll see some examples. © Photo credits: eden-park.com

Starting from an old archive chevron, I recreated it in an optical way, making it more modern and in line with the brand identity of Armani; the grey melange cotton fabric gives it a bit of movement without being too heavy on the eye. NIKE’S “THE 10” By Virgil Abloh

Experiments In Expression Air Force 1 WORKSHOP To be selected for this Workshop I had to submit 3 images: one had to represent Remixed, one Reconstructed and the last one Icons. For the first theme I Photoshopped Kanye West’s face onto a Mozart portrait; for reconstructed I decided to create a photomontage overlapping pictures of the temple of Baal in Palmira before and after the bombing (thet event occurred not long before the workshop) and as Icons I Photoshopped the face of an historical Icon: the Mona Lisa, of a vintage Icon: Marilyn Monroe and of a nowdays Icon Beyonce on the heads of the most iconic doll ever: Barbie. After being selectet I had the oportunity to put myself in Virgil Abloh shoes and work on the restyling of a white Air Force 1.

UNIVERSITY PROJECTS Here you’re going to see some projects I made for Politecnico and some from my curricular workshops. Including my first ever print development, which I made during a Workshop with Limonta and MCM. There are also some jewelry studies and some sewing.

CENSOR*D ACCESSORY PROJECT

Censor*d is a group project, developed during a curricular workshop with Limonta in Politecnico. Our task was to create an original print for a backpack and the print must have had a word in it filled in with images. Not long time before we started the project we heard the news that in an advert for a Schiele exhibition in London many complained about the “naked people on the posters”. That’s when we decided to go for the word: “Censored” and chose to fill the letters with nude paintings and nude sculptures and let the letters themseves censore the nudity. The only reference to nudity is a nipple in the center of the asterisk in contrast with the asterisk’s own meaning of censorship. From that asterisk we then developped the allover print that’s on the backpack front panel and shoulder strap.

CRACKLING CRACKS JEWELERY PROJECT Inspired by a cracking eggshell and then from the natural quartz’s shapes, this parure of a ring and pendant was carved in wax and painted with acrilics.

WORDS COME EASY JEWELERY PROJECT Starting form a simple labret piercing, I was inspired by Mursi’s women decorative clay lip plaque to shape silver alluminium wire into a spiral-shape. The spiral going down from the lower lip to the chin stands to represent a waterfall of words flowing out of the mouth. The spiral, besides recalling the shape of the african jewel, represents infinity, re-birth, contiuous developement and expasion towards the future.

STRIPE BY STIPE SEWING PROJECT This is a project from my first year in Politenico. The theme was Stripes and had to be represented and developed in a womenswear outfit made of top and skirt, in which cuts and pleats would create optical and geometric games. I created a structured skirt composed by many triangles combining with each other, a color contrast waistband, facing and front piece; and its matching top, cut on the bust line and pleated with a solid color insert on the side and matching facing. The soft color keeps it classic and sofisticated even with the optical effects and doesen’t bother the eye when watching.

As I gained a little more confidence in my skills, I decided to challenge myself and tried to recreate a red carpet dress and of course I recorded the whole process, from the pattern creation to the final sewing.
