Hi, I’m Miriam.

I’m a Fashion designer. I graduated from Politecnico di Milano in July 2018 and I’ve worked as a textile print designer at Cotonificio Albini from January 2019 to December 2020. During my studies I’ve become more and more interested in graphic and allover prints development, both on fabrics and accessories. As a print designer I used to develop both digital and traditional printings and colorways in the special project team. I’m passionate about fashion and innovation, always striving to a more sustainable way of doing things. Even though I’ve been working as a print designer for a while now, I’m still finding time to mantain my sewing and clothes creating skills sharp.

In this portfolio I’m presenting some projects from my textile printing experience as well as some University one. Enjoy!

SOFTWARE SKILLS

Inedit NeoTextil Curricular Workshop with Limonta Photoshop InDesign Receptionist Curricular Workshop with MCM Illustrator Microsoft office Rhinoceros SolidWorks I arrived at Cotonificio Albini 6 months after getting my Fashion Design KeyShot Degree, there I used to develop both digital and traditional printings and colorways mainly on Photoshop in the special project team: we LANGUAGES cured original designs for our clients following their colour and theme requests. Italian From time to time I used to find myself creating repetitions from old (mothertongue) archive scan or client illustrations. I therefore developped an eye for English rapport creation and became proficent in NeoTextil plug-in: nT Rapport. From May 2018 to October 2018

I worked in contact with our printing partners, I followed the strike offs and check if the color tones were accteptable before approving the production or sampling of a design. When working with traditional printing I also made sure that the Photoshop files were correctly divided by channels and had the right resolution before sending them to the engraver and once I recived the strike offs I made sure that not only the colors were ok, but also the cleannes of the designs was acceptable compared to the CAD the client had approved before and made sure we would achieve the best result possible in relation to the printing technique. Working there I had the opportunity to work with many important brands and well known names of the fashion industry covering different market areas, both Geography-wise, from Europe, to Asia, to US, and market-wise, from luxury to fast fashion.

These are a few graphics from the Autumn Winter 2020 collection. These drawing were all made with the client logo in it. We’ve collaborated with Eden Park for many seasons now and for each we develop some new designs, as the one in this page, but the client also likes to choose some designs from Albini collections and asks to put its logo in it, to make them look more branded.

Starting from an old archive chevron, I recreated it in an optical way, making it more modern and in line with the brand identity of Armani; the grey melange cotton fabric gives it a bit of movement without being too heavy on the eye. This design was developed for traditional printing and the roller was engraved exclusively for the client.

WORKSHOP - NIKE’S “THE 10” By Virgil Abloh Experiments In Expression Air Force 1 To be selected for this Workshop I had to submit 3 images: one had to mean Remixed, one Reconstructed and the last one Icons. For the first theme I Photoshopped Kanye West’s face onto a Mozart portrait; for reconstructed I decided to create a photomontage overlapping pictures of the temple of Baal in Palmira before and after the bombing (thet event occurred not long before the workshop) and fot Icons i Photoshopped the face of an historical Icon: the Mona Lisa, of a vintage Icon: Marilyn Monroe and of a nowdays Icon Beyonce on the heads of the most iconic doll: Barbie. After being selectet I had the oportunity to put myself in Virgil Abloh shoes and work on the restyling of a white Air Force 1.

UNIVERSITY PROJECTS

Here you’re going to see some projects I made for Politecnico and some from my curricular workshops. Including my first ever print development, which I made during a Workshop with Limonta and MCM. There are also some jewelry studies and some sewing.

CENSOR*D Censor*d is a group project, developed during a curricular workshop with Limonta in Politecnico. Our task was to create an original print for a backpack and the print must have had a word in it filled in with images. Not long time before we started the project we heard the news that during an advert for a Schiele exhibition in London many complained about the naked people on the posters. That’s when we decided to go for the word: “Censored” and chose to fill the letters with nude paintings and nude sculptures and let the letters themseves censore the nudity. The only reference to nudity is a nipple in the center of the asterisk in contrast with the asterisk’s own

meaning of censorship. From that asterisk we then developped the allover print that’s on the backpack front panel and shoulder strap.

FANTASTIC BEASTS

Fantastic Beasts is another group project developed during workshop with MCM at Politecnico. The lion, the unicorn, the phoenix, the carp and the dragon look like they are trying to excape the backpack as if it was a cage. The main inspiration for this project is taken from the street artist 1010 and his optical illusion murals that look like colorful 3D portals.

CRACKLING CRACKS

Inspired by a cracking eggshell and then from the natural quartz’s shapes, this parure of a ring and pendant was carved in wax and painted with acrilics.

WORDS COME EASY

Starting form a simple labret piercing, I was inspired by Mursi’s women decorative clay lip plaque to shape silver alluminium wire into a spiral-shape. The spiral going down from the lower lip to the chin stands to represent a waterfall of words flowing out of the mouth. The spiral, besides recalling the shape of the african jewel, represents infinity, re-birth, contiuous developement and expasion towards the future.

STRIPE BY STIPE

This one is a project from my first year in Politenico. The theme was Stripes and had to be represented and developed in a womenswear outfit mad of top and skirt, in which cuts and pleats would create optical and geometric games. I created a structured skirt composed by many triangles fitting with each others, a color contrast waistband, facing and front piece; and its matching top, cut on the bust line and pleated with a solid color insert on the side and matching facing. The soft color keeps it classic and sofisticated even with the optical effects and doesen’t bother the eye when watching.
