At St. Norbert College
st. norbert ART PROGRAM St. Norbert College has endless opportunities to offer. From student exhibitions to study abroad and everywhere in between, the St. Norbert Art Program enhances your life. Whether you are an art major or not, you can become a member of Art Club, attend guest lectures for ArThursday, utilize the studios and labs in the Bush Art Center, and visit the galleries to see various exhibitions. You also have the remarkable opportunity to study abroad. Schools of the arts can be found in Italy and Australia, in addition to the numerous other possibilities to choose from. The art staff cares about who you are and what you will become. Their appreciable talent and experience are key factors influencing their ability to teach and your ability to learn. One way they may help you for the future is by reviewing your portfolio and resumé and helping to make them stronger. In their experience, they have come in contact with a number of artists and companies. The St. Norbert art faculty are your first step to networking beyond your hometown.
“If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced” (Vincent Van Gogh).
POTENTIAL CAREERS REAL JOBS of REAL ART MAJORS Have you ever dreamed of being a painter? A children’s book illustrator? A wedding photographer? There are endless career opportunities for art majors. Art majors have remained in their field with careers in animation, typeface design, package design, architecture, interior design, jewelry creation, fashion design, filmmaking, printmaking, teaching, curating, and so much more. However, just because you are an art major does not simply mean that you must have a career in your field. You could end up being an event coordinator, a business owner, a realtor, or even a banker!
snc art alumni where are they now? A group of seven St. Norbert College alumni are now working for Shopko to assist in design- and marketing-related areas promoting the 330-store-corporation. One member of the group graduated as a biology major. Networking matters!
A survey from Right Management stated that while 41% of their clients landed a job due to networking, only 8% were employed due to a direct approach (Forbes Magazine).
Fine Art A fine art minor pairs well with a major in language, human services, leadership studies, theatre studies, and more. If you love hands-on art but do not want to be committed to hours upon hours in the studio, this may be the route for you. On the contrary, a fine art major would give you more experience, more items in your portfolio, more possibility to build connections, more opportunity to work with new material, more, more, more! Be an art major.
ROUTE 2 OF 2 GRAPHIC DESIGN A graphic design minor pairs well with a variety of majors, including communication, business, computer science, political science, and more. It gives you endless opportunity for interconnection between your college degree and your career. It stands to argue that if a graphic design minor would support a different major of your choosing, then a graphic design major could be supported by other minors. If you have a passion for art, but you are concerned about stability in a future career, this is the major for you. Graphic design is everywhere. You can’t go wrong.
At St. Norbert College, there are two routes you can take to receive an art education. Both the fine art and the graphic design sequences are available as a major and a minor.
