TimeOut Tropical taste of Rio

THE first Brazilian Carnival in 20 years was a rampant success with over 300 participants enjoying a night of live music by Marcio Mendes, feathered dancers, samba lessons by Sambalicious and the musical setting led by Dj Dread Juan.

“This definitely will become an annual event,” said Carnival’s organiser Taciano Cavalcante.

“Considering we hadn’t had a carnival in 20 years, it was very well received by Brazilians, Latinos and the Cairns community.

“Carnival has reignited the Brazilian community and started a movement,” he said.

Stella Donnelly has recently finished recording her new album ‘Flood’ with award-winning producer Anna Laverty. The record is described as the singer-songwriter’s “record of rediscovery: the product of months of risky experimentation, hard moments of introspection, and a lot of transition”. Performing at the Tanks Arts Centre, we can’t wait to hear this incredible musician live.

Flame 2023 Tanks Arts Centre

FLAME is the exhibition outcome of a mentorship program to give young women experience in the professional arts industry.

Six established women artists from the Cairns Region and the Douglas Shire were asked to mentor emerging artists whose talent had been identified in the 2021 ENERGY exhibition, an annual showcase of our region’s best senior high school art students.
