THE first Brazilian Carnival in 20 years was a rampant success with over 300 participants enjoying a night of live music by Marcio Mendes, feathered dancers, samba lessons by Sambalicious and the musical setting led by Dj Dread Juan.

“This definitely will become an annual event,” said Carnival’s organiser Taciano Cavalcante.
“Considering we hadn’t had a carnival in 20 years, it was very well received by Brazilians, Latinos and the Cairns community.
“Carnival has reignited the Brazilian community and started a movement,” he said.

The record is described as the singer-songwriter’s “record of rediscovery: the product of months of risky experimentation, hard moments of introspection, and a lot of transition”.
