Socks travel through several stages of washing and wearing cycle - from the dresser drawer, carried to the washing machine, dryer sorted so and matched with their mate before they make it safely back to the dresser drawer. With so many steps in the process, no wonder they get lost and mismatched. Have you considered the time it takes to match the socks come out of the laundry and get them back in the drawer. Think of the daily chaos we experienced just trying to get dressed. Only until it got so bad that my entire household inventory of socks were piled together in a laundry basket, I'd arrange a family sock-sorting party. I got the kids involved by putting in a movie and all of us would spread out on the floor and match up socks, typically for the duration of the film. Then there was always the baby socks that never found their match, the matchless socks languished in the basket for months and months.
