iNTRODUCTION In the busy and ever-changing world of fashion, there’s no space for complacency when it comes to attracting and gaining new clients. Pop up retail is the temporary use of physical space to create a lasting impression with potential customers. A pop up shop allows you to communicate your brand’s promise to your customers through the use of a unique and engaging physical environment. This proposal document will provide Ryan Lo with an exciting pop up event concept to promote his sleepwear collection in collaboration with YOLKE.

About Ryan Lo Hong Kong-born Ryan Lo has become one of London’s most loved designers thanks to his unabashedly romantic aesthetic. At sixteen he moved to London to study Fashion Design and Technology and graduated in 2011. Just a year after graduation, Ryan was selected as one of Lulu Kennedy’s Fashion East designers, and following this was awarded NEWGEN sponsorship. Romantic fantasy is the consistent theme in Ryan’s designs. Drawing inspirations from childhood nostalgia, his bold and brash aesthetic cheerfully rails against the paredback and minimalist designs so often produced by many young London designers. He describes what he does as “A hyper-romantic clothing line in a super-real world, thought up by a dreamy designer.” Motivated by the fluffy, sparkly bastions of girlishness, Ryan crafts his designs with an unconventional DIY approach having taught himself to knit from YouTube tutorials. No material is immune from Lo’s touch – tulle, tinsel and ribbons are all given new life in this designer’s hands. Ryan draws inspiration from 90’s and early 2000 pop culture. He once said “We aspire to those notions, you know, the aesthetics of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls. They’re our teenage dreams and even when we grow up we still go back to re-creating that.” Ryan Lo has collaborated with brands including O Thongthai and SWEAR and can be found in international stores including Net-a-Porter, Beams and Machine-A.

Target Market Ryan best describes his target market as “not a girl and not yet a woman - there’s a Britney Spears thing going on there.” The majority of his audience is generated from his London fashion week appearances. Inevitably this attracts wealthy fashion followers, with playful and eccentric styles. His designs attracts a typical ‘girly girl’. Ryan says, “For me, what I do - girlishness - it’s a no brainer. It’s not try hard, it’s not pushing boundaries. It’s just making girls pretty, cute, gorgeous and sexy.”

About YOLKE Launched in 2013, YOLKE is a London based silk sleepwear and loungewear brand with a DNA in print led design. Founded by friends Ella Ringner and Anna Williamson YOLKE’s signature style of playful, contemporary prints has gained the brand a reputation as the new silk girls on the block. Not content with only wearing pyjamas at night YOLKE have refined collections to provide the perfect day/night balance. YOLKE steps away from the crowd by offering silk separates and pyjama styles tailored to be as at home in the workplace as the bedroom. Cut from the softest stretch silk pyjama styles now move with you as you sleep or go about your day. Crease resistant and much more hard wearing then non stretch silk, introducing the most comfortable and luxurious silks around.

Social, Culutral and Economic Trends

aims of the collaboration: • Increase Accessibility • Elevate Ryan Lo on to a ready to wear platform • Increase brand awareness through Synergy

pOP UP STORE We propose that the limited edition pyjamas will be sold in a three-day pop up store in the centre of London. In the past, Ryan Lo has held no large scale, experiential events for his followers to enjoy, a weakness that could become detrimental to the brand. The brand is also extremely hard to reach. His designs are sold at few stocklisters, and the brand currently does not have a fully functioning website. Allowing Ryan Lo fans to physically shop his clothes will be a hugely rewarding leap. In the future, we hope Ryan will expand into opening a concession in a leading, luxury department store, or opening a flagship store. Creating a short term pop up will allow Ryan to test out the market and potential locations.

Social AND cultural trends

In 2016 nostalgia-centric campaigns are resonating with millennial audiences. Reliving positive memories and beloved icons from the past feels good. Fond memories make us smile – like Ryan Lo. Tapping into fond memories can be an invaluable tactic. From fast food to breakfast cereals to and everything in between, the pop up will engage through retro roots.

Daytime Pyjama trend

Inspired by the louche loungewear of the Twenties and Coco Chanel, the recent street-style trend for wearing pyjamas in the daytime looks set to stick around.

Theme and Concept The Sleep-lo-ver Club

Ah, sleepovers...pedicures, hair styling, prank calls and pillow fights, photoshoots on your flip phone, magazine-flipping, crush declarations, pizza, ice cream, Truth or Dare and endless movie marathons. Slumber parties hold many unforgettable memories. Ryan Lo constantly draws inspirations from childhood nostalgia, encouraging those to escape the real world. Our pop up event will achieve this by taking you back to an old school sleepover. The event will feature a screening of our favourite childhood series, THE SLEEPOVER CLUB, a cereal bar to cure any midnight cravings and childhood games like pin the horn on the unicorn.

Venue The pop up shop will be held at 14 and 18 Smiths Court, Soho. As the home of London fashion week, this area is diverse, fun loving and creative by nature. Sitting in a small courtyard, Smiths Court is right in the heart of Soho which is home to many popular shops, bars and restaurants. Throughout the week this area is dense with Londoners, tourists and avid shoppers. Number 14 will act as the shop and the experiential activities will be held in number 18.

fLOOR PLAN

COLOUR PALETTE

Viewpoint 1 Due to their eye-catching nature, shopper’s will be drawn into the pop up by the balloon filled ceilings and window displays. Balloons often remind us of childhood parties and celebrations, immediately tapping into shoppers emotions on first arrival. Both doors will be open so that shopper’s will hear the 90’s themed music and The Sleepover Club audio. A staff member will be situated near each door entrance, greeting and welcoming customers as they enter. On the launch event, one member of staff will stand outside checking tickets. From the window you will be able to see the monogramming station and the cereal bar, two major attractions of the event.

viewpoint 2 This will be the shoppers first view of the Ryan Lo X YOLKE pop up store interior. At eye level their first point of contact will be the screening of The Sleepover Club series, projected onto the wall. Below will sit giant pink bean bags for people to relax on, whilst watching the screening. Surrounding the walls will be waterfall fairy lights (a necessity for any sleepover). Balloons will fill the ceilings to create a party style atmosphere. The Cereal Killer Cafe bar will be located on the left side of the room, where guests can enjoy a colourful bowl of cereal, a milkshake and other sweet treats.

Viewpoint 3

When exiting the store, shoppers have the chance to play ‘pin the horn on the unicorn’. One member of staff will cover this area, encouraging everyone to play. Staff will tend to customers needs, in their Ryan Lo X YOLKE pyjamas. Certain members of staff will also be wearing usherette trays filled with sweet treats. On the launch event champagne will be added to the tray.

viewpoint 4

As guests enter the following room they will spot the monogramming station. This will cause a point of interest, in addition to providing shoppers with an incentive to buy a product. The monogramming specialist will work and complete jobs live, which is a perfect sales tool. This area will become busy during the launch event and peak shopping times. Sufficient health and safety procedures will be put in place to minimise risks.

viewpoint 5

Three clothing rails will be located in the centre of the room. Each style of pyjama will be hung and 2 of each size will be displayed. Restocking will occur every hour in order to maximise sales. The till will be situated around the corner, ensuring the queue will not disrupt fellow shoppers or the monogramming station. One member of staff will be stationed at the till point. This will change depending on how busy the shop is.

Sensory experience Touch The pyjamas will be hung on clothing rails in the centre of the room, allowing customer to feel and touch the fabric. The sleeping masks will be stored in pick’n’mix style jam jars, offering customers an interactive shopping experience.

smell

Various sugary scents from the cereal bar will linger around the rooms, making it smell like a real life sleepover. Both shop doors will be left open, ensuring constant ventilation, to prevent scents from becoming overpowering.

Hearing

Customers will hear the audio from The Sleepover Club, in addition to the 90’s and 2000’s playlist on repeat. On the launch event, Ryan Lo and YOLKE founders will hold a Q&A and a live DJ will perform.

Sight

In-store visuals will include the balloon filled ceilings, The Sleepover Club screening, the products and the monogramming specialist at work.

taste

The Cereal Cafe Killer will be providing the food to cure any midnight cravings, in addition to the Ryan Lo X YOLKE team handing out sugary treats.
