The Wasps faced a huge matchup this week as they played against the Tees Valley Mohawks at Andrew Marvel. Both sides entered the game knowing that a loss could really prove costly going forward as they face a relegation fight. The game started with both teams trying to feel each other out waiting for an opportunity to strike. A couple of baskets were traded but it was not enough to build a lead. Sean Knight hit a couple of early jump shots to help the Wasps establish a small lead. The Mohawks had a star in the making in their American forward Logan Holloman. He wasted no time getting into

the basket a couple of time during a three minute stretch bolstered by Sean Knight’s continued offensive presence but Holloman had an answer for everything and would help his team stay in the game. The Wasps won the quarter by a single point which sent both teams into the half time period with a tied game. The Wasps put down their defensive foot in the third quarter only holding the Mohawks to 14 points although the play of Innes and Holloman was always a constant threat. MacArt and Gammino started to impact the game with slick play leading to lay ups. The tone was set defensively and

KNIGHT HIT A COUPLE OF EARLY JUMP SHOTS the match with a couple of baskets of his own. The end of the first quarter arrived with the Wasps trailing by a single point, 16-15. If the first quarter was tight the second quarter proved to be the exact duplicate with teams trading baskets never really establishing a lead. Angelo Irving would find

the Wasps had a great tone about their play and went into the fourth quarter with a 5 point lead, 55-50. The fourth quarter was as close as they come as the Mohawks threw

everything they had at the Wasps. It was again time for Holloman to show why he is one of the best scoring forwards in the league as during the second half he hit 7 three

pointers 4 of which came in the fourth quarter. Sean Knight countered with some three point shots of his own. The final minutes ticked down and the lead kept changing hands. The crowd all on their feet in disbelief at the game they were watching the Wasps were down three with 10 seconds left as they moved the ball up court it found Knight who stepped back and released a long three point shot. The ball swished through the net and the building erupted as that shot sent the game into overtime, 75 -75.

THE WASPS HAD NOT YET HAD AN OVERTIME GAME THIS SEASON The Wasps had not had an overtime game this season and it proved to be a thrilling 5 minutes. Both teams started slowly with no team scoring for the first minute and a half. The Mohawks and the Wasps kept trading blows leading up until the last 30 seconds. Mohawks had the ball the Wasps had to find a defensive stop from somewhere, Holloman had the attention of the team which lead to one of the Mohawks guard slipping through and making a huge layup. The Wasps

had no timeouts, down two again they pushed the ball forward with the final seconds ticking down. The ball came to Jordache Akpoveta and his shot fell short the Mohawks had won one the games of the season. “We gave that game everything, I am so proud of the lads. It is not a game we want to dwell on so we will pick ourselves up and get ready for Sheffield Sabres coming to town on Saturday night in another huge relegation game.” Coach Coulson said after the game.

A

“We have a couple of must win games left against teams who we know are trying to take our spot in this league. We have to be professional in our approach and hopefully we will come away with what we want.”

WHO’S YOUR MOST IMPROVED ON THE TEAM?

A

“My most improved so far this season would be Phillip Ainsworth hasn’t seen much court time but always turns up with a smile on his face and last weekend he stepped in and contribute to the overall team performance. Long may his improvement continue. .”

WHAT’S BEEN YOUR PERSONAL HIGHLIGHT OF THE SEASON SO FAR?

A

“This has been a difficult year for me as a player, stepping down from coaching the first team to becoming just a player has been a challenge.
