This is the first issue of many, so get excited. To start off the challenge, we will recommend a few doughnut stores in the CBD as well as some in the suburbs that are affordable and easy to access. #poorunistudent

Doughnut Time For the first part of this challenge we will be taking you to Doughnut Time. With 4 shops located around Melbourne this is one place you will want to try. Degraves Street is the easiest to get to as you can exit Flinders Street Station from the Degraves Lane underpass or just off Flinders Street. Originally starting in Brisbane in 2015 they have grown to have 20 locations that provide a wide range of delicious doughnuts with new limited edition doughnuts being released regularly. They are made fresh daily with locally sourced ingredients. Prices start at $6.70 (they are a decent size for the price!) and if you want more value for your money there is also an option to purchase a 4 pack for $25 and a 6 pack for $38 as well as giant doughnuts that start from $15. Doughnut Time also offer loyalty cards and gift cards for the more serious doughnut lovers! The atmosphere when waiting to be served will be exciting as it’s such a hard choice to pick what flavour to have! Personal favourites from the team at Monthly Doughnut are Love at first bite (which is filled with Nutella and is just amazing), Liam Hemsworthy (which is Red Velvet and Vegan, also who wouldn’t buy something named after Liam Hemsworth!) and Life on Mars (Which is a combination of chocolate and caramel and is just a sweet combination, no pun intended of course!) Other doughnuts that are available are The O.G, Slimshady, It’s always a gay time, pump up the jam, fairy godmother, flakey af, crème de la crème, d’o nut and Cornelius fudge. The ratings for this place took into consideration the price, cost, flavours available, location/s and atmosphere and is a 4/5 What do you rate it out of 5?

For our next place, it is Walker’s Doughnut which is just up the road from Doughnut Time on the corner of Flinders and Elizabeth Street. Walker’s are very old school and pride themselves on making their doughnuts with love. Not only do they sell delicious doughnuts but they also do custom roasted coffees, genuine USA hotdogs, Milkshakes and old fashion sodas! Starting from $2.95 they offer classic glaze, fancy decorated, custard, jam filled and fancy filled doughnuts. The atmosphere is very fast paced due to the location of the store but you’ll always get good old fashion service though! Moving further in the CBD up to Bourke Street is Doughboy Doughnuts. For those who like to take pictures of their food or love pretty things this is the place for you! Only a limited batch are made daily and almost always sell out so be prepared to go early to snag some of the prettiest doughnuts that you’ll ever see! Doughnuts start from $4.50 depending on the flavour and the menu is always changing so it’s always a mystery to what they’ll have but not to worry you’ll love the friendly atmosphere. There is also an option to buy a 6 pack of doughnuts for $32 as well as coffee and other types of drinks at a reasonable price. Top ones to try if they’re available are Dragon fruit beauty (Who doesn’t want a bright pink doughnut and its fruit so has it so be somewhat healthy right?!), Hazelnut (This is fantastic if you have a chocolate and hazelnut craving) and Matcha Mallow (if you love marshmallows you’ll love this!) If you miss out on getting any doughnuts due to them selling out don’t worry they also do deliveries around Melbourne and cater for cafes such as Auction Rooms, Barry Coffee, Clement, Darling Café, Dear abbey, Dish and Spoons, Pepper Café, Sensory Lab in Collins Street and David Jones, Story Café, The Joinery, Tom Thumb and more.
