Join us to discover Montenegro, a bite-sized Balkan nation packed with old-world architecture, sublime beauty, a proud history and friendly locals who are quick to smile. From our base in charming Tivat, we’ll visit Perast, Kotor and Budva, living museums boasting ancient ramparts and sunny promenades. Cruise along the serpentine Bay of Kotor and step inside ancient Orthodox monasteries, steeped with tales of the country’s storied past. Sample some of the region’s finest wines and explore the beautiful ecosystem of Lake Skadar by boat. Wrap up this epic journey with an overnight in Dubrovnik, the medieval jewel in Croatia’s crown. DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 | In Transit Depart your gateway city for Dubrovnik, Croatia. Day 2 | Tivat, Montenegro Transfer to the Regent Porto Montenegro. Tonight, meet your fellow travelers during a Welcome Reception and Dinner at the hotel. Day 3 | Cetinje Enrichment: History of Montenegro. A local expert discusses the country’s history spanning from the early Middle Ages to modern-day Montenegro. Discovery: Cetinje — The Old Capital. Founded in the 15th century, Cetinje was Montenegro’s capital between 1878 and 1946. Today, Cetinje is a living time capsule with impressive architecture, galleries, art academies and museums that reveal fascinating cultural and historical insight into Montenegro. Step into the past while touring the National Museum of Montenegro, housed within five historic buildings. Following lunch, savor stunning panoramas during a scenic drive on the return to Tivat. Gather for a group dinner at a restaurant in town. Day 4 | Bay of Kotor | Perast | Kotor Discovery: Bay of Kotor. Discover the bay’s jawdropping hills, plummeting cliffs and emerald waters during a private cruise. Admire the scenery while sailing to Our Lady of the Rocks, learn about the island’s legend and tour its baroque-style church. Continue to medieval Perast, a charming lakefront town that is showcase to 16 churches and many palaces, defensive towers and monuments. Enjoy free time in Perast, followed by a group lunch.

Cruise to Kotor and explore the old town where cobbled lanes give way to shaded squares, historic churches, restaurants and a stone clock tower. After time at leisure, return to Tivat by motor coach. Day 5 | Lake Skadar | Tuzi Discovery: Lake Skadar. Travel through a mountain landscape to the largest freshwater lake in the Balkans. Perched on the Montenegrin and Albanian border, the lake is peppered with villages and the remains of ancient monasteries and churches. During a boat tour, admire the lake’s flora and fauna, glide through lily pads and learn about the area’s ecosystem and endemic species. Enjoy a group lunch during your cruising adventure.

AHI Connects: Montenegrin Winery. Travel to a vineyard owned by one of Eastern Europe’s biggest producers of wine and grape brandy, and tour one of the wine cellars located in a former underground Yugoslav-era aircraft hangar. Then, learn about the region’s microclimates and grape varietals and sample delicious Montenegrin wines. Day 6 | Tivat | Kotor Enrichment: Yugoslavia and Montenegro. Discuss Montenegro’s place in the communist federation of Yugoslavia as well as how the modern state of Montenegro was formed. Discovery: Maritime Heritage Museum. Dedicated to the former Naval Yugoslav base “Arsenal,” this museum features two dry-docked Yugoslav navy submarines and nearly 300 relics, including Austro-Hungarian ship equipment and industrial machines. Learn about Montenegro’s naval history and step inside a submarine for a closer look. Discovery: An Evening in Kotor. After sunset, the streetlights cast a romantic glow on Kotor’s cobblestones. Soak up the peaceful ambience and take a glimpse into local life during a gentle stroll. Day 7 | Budva Enrichment: Independent Montenegro. An expert discusses the political, economic and social forces that shaped the republic of Montenegro. Discovery: Budva. Visit the UNESCO-protected Monastery of Reževići and Praskvica Monastery, which features sleeping quarters, a former school, ancient manuscripts and interesting relics. Continue to Budva, a coastal town enclosed within medieval citadel walls. During a guided walk, see the narrow streets lined with charming shops, small squares and eateries, and note the 14th-century Saint Sava Church and pretty Church of the Holy Trinity. A group lunch caps off your excursion today. Day 8 | Dubrovnik, Croatia After breakfast, drive to Dubrovnik, Croatia, and check in to the Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik. Discovery: Dubrovnik. Discover the highlights of Dubrovnik during a walking tour. Admire the 14th-century Franciscan Monastery’s Romanesque cloister and visit its small apothecary. Explore medieval Sponza Palace, see the loggia of the Rector’s Palace and visit the baroque cathedral. Free time: The balance of the day is at leisure. Raise a toast at a Farewell Reception and Dinner. Day 9 | In Transit Transfer to the airport for the return flight to your gateway city.
