We acknowledge that we come together and create music on land known by the Blackfoot name Mohkinstsis, which we also call Calgary. This land is on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Piikani, and Kanai First Nations), the Îyâxe Nakoda (Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations), and the Tsuut'ina First Nations, as well as the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. We honour this land and all those who share it in a spirit of peace, friendship, and respect.

Dear friends,
Music moves us. It can get us up dancing, hugs us with comfort in difficult times, and even brings us tears of joy, setting us in motion through the rhythm of our lives.
I’m so excited to welcome you to our 2023/2024 Season, where we will move you with the beauty of orchestral music. As we kick off the season, we continue the joyous celebration of the 60th anniversary of our Chorus, with a special commission for the Orchestra and Chorus by composer Andrew Balfour.
Bringing Alberta’s largest orchestras together, we’re thrilled to welcome the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra to Calgary to join us on stage for a sideby-side performance of Gustav Mahler’s Third Symphony. Following this one-night-only concert in Calgary, your Calgary Phil will make the trip up to Edmonton to take the stage with the ESO at the Winspear Centre. You will hear sensational guest artists and conductors from around the world as they visit our city to perform with your Calgary Phil this season. You won’t want to miss virtuoso violinist Joshua Bell, made possible thanks to the support of Heather Edwards. The artistic and physical circus prowess of Troupe Vertigo will keep you on the edge of your seats. Country superstar Brett Kissel takes the stage, generously supported by the Taylor Family Foundation. We have a fantastic lineup of soloists and conductors, so there are a lot of exciting performances to look forward to.
Music is all about collaboration, and we are glad to partner with organizations from across Calgary, including One Yellow Rabbit for IndigiDivas, and the Calgary Jewish Federation on a musical journey from holocaust to hope.
As we move through the season, you’ll find something for everyone, with treasured orchestral classics, beloved holiday favourites like Handel’s Messiah, new works from innovative composers, delightful Symphony Sundays for Kids concerts, blockbuster films like Disney’s Up and Star Wars, and pop hits from today and back in the day. Plus, students from our communities can experience an introduction to the Orchestra at one of our Education Concerts.
I’m so proud to work with the brilliant musicians of your Calgary Phil, and this season, we shine a spotlight on them in a special one-night concert of music composed and performed by your own Calgary Phil musicians. See you at Spotlight On Your Phil!
The Calgary Phil is Calgary’s orchestra, and it belongs to you. We are honoured to perform and share this music with you. Thank you for joining us on this journey. Together, let us celebrate the transformative power of music and the joy it brings throughout our lives. See you soon!
