New Teacher Alert! IRISH CHAIN (SINGLE, DOUBLE OR TRIPLE) with Charles Johns-Lee Welcome new instructor Charles JohnsLee to Calico Gals! Newly transplanted from NYC, Charles brings years of quilting and quilting education experience to Central New York. Join Charles and make a piece of history while learning to piece the classic Irish Chain pattern. The earliest record of the Irish Chain pattern was in 1807 and by the 1820’s it became common. It continues to be popular, in part because it is a relatively easy pattern, and also because it can showcase decorative quilting. Learn to create the two different blocks and arrange them to form a secondary design. Choose your own layout: Single (two fabrics), Double (three fabrics) or Triple (four fabrics) Irish Chain. Waynna Kershner Waynna Kershner’s first exposure to quilts occurred many years ago, when her husband

Calico Gals welcomes Linda Gosselin on October 19 & 20! A quilter just like you, in 2002 Linda pieced a scrappy triple Irish chain quilt and took it to a longarm quilter at a local quilt shop. Seeing what the longarm system could do, she wanted to own a system herself! She bought a used HQ Sixteen® in 2005, added Pro-Stitcher® in 2007, and then upgraded to a new HQ Fusion® with Pro-Stitcher in 2010. In addition, her studio now also includes a new HQ Avanté® with Pro-Stitcher and an HQ Sweet Sixteen®.

Linda Gosselin Linda Gosselin has been piecing quilts since the American Bicentennial quilt revival of 1976. OCT 20, 1:30 - 4:30 PM • QUILTING BEYOND THE DESIGN Begin with a basic design from a stencil, a ruler or template, an appliqué, a fabric print, a cookie cutter or a shape you draw yourself. Then transform that design from basic to spectacular by extending, expanding, and adding secondary designs, repeats, fills and special effects. Learn marking techniques and tools for applying designs to quilt tops.
