Greetings! We are pleased to announce that the First Annual Spring Valley Tailgate & BBQ Festival will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2010 on Troy Street between Bancroft Avenue and Central Avenue from 10 AM to 5 PM. Initiated by the Spring Valley Chamber of Commerce and Cali Comfort Restaurant, the goal of the festival is to raise money for the underprivileged youth in Spring Valley. This year the benefactor and nonprofit fiscal agency of the festival will be the Los Toros Youth Football & Cheer Program. The Los Toros Youth Football & Cheer Organization has been serving the youth of Spring Valley, Rancho San Diego and Southeast San Diego since 1960. Los Toros is a program operated for the benefit of its young participants. At every level, Los Toros seeks to develop well-rounded young men and women who learn not only the fundamentals of football or cheerleading, but also the importance of education, in an atmosphere conducive to developing sound mind, body, and character - and having a good time along the way! The general objective of Youth Football and Cheer is to inspire youth, regardless of race, creed or national origin, to practice the ideals of sportsmanship, scholarship and physical fitness. The program stresses learning lessons for value far beyond the playing or cheering days of the boys and girls involved, such as: self-discipline, teamwork, concentration, friendship, leadership and good sportsmanship. The goals of the Spring Valley Tailgate & BBQ Festival Steering Committee, herein referred to as SVTBF, are: 1.

2. 3. 4.

To raise money for the underprivileged youth of Spring Valley who would not otherwise be able participate in sports programs that teach children responsibility, team work, commitment and that give them an opportunity to be productive when they are not in school. To build a sense of community and local pride for the citizens and local businesses in Spring Valley. To revitalize the neighborhoods of Spring Valley as a place to raise families in a safe environment, operate businesses and promote the beautification efforts of our local volunteer agencies. To enjoy a fall day in Spring Valley with great tasting BBQ, games and activities for families, listen to live local music, and support our amateur BBQ teams.

We hope to have 30 amateur BBQ Teams participating in this year’s competition. The teams will be competing in four categories: Tri-Tip, Pork Ribs, Chicken, and Best Decorated Tailgate Team. Enclosed are the BBQ Rules and Team Application. We will also be looking for various vendors to participate in this event and the Booth Rental Application and Agreement are enclosed herein. All vendors and amateur BBQ teams must have their forms submitted by no later than October 10, 2010. The Spring Valley Tailgate & BBQ Festival is the perfect opportunity for local businesses and organizations to show their support for the community and promote their business through the different levels of sponsorship that are available. Enclosed you will find a Sponsorship form. We look forward to hosting a fun, safe and successful event this fall and hope that you will join us! Sincerely, The Spring Valley Tailgate & BBQ Festival Committee www.springvalleybbqfestival.com
