PERSONAL STATEMENT

EDUCATION

Upon graduating with second class honours from The Queensland University of Tehcnology I moved to London and began working at DaP Architects as an Architectural Assistant. Duties included 3d modelling, rendering for client presentations, Surveying and drawing up existing properties in AutoCAD. Projects included house extensions and loft conversions, in addition to office project designs.

After six months of working at DaP architects I was granted the opportunity to work with John Simpson Arhcitects in a part 1 graduate role. This has given me the opportunity to expand my skill set as an architect as I have been able to work on projects that include, The Royal College of Music, Notre Dame School of Architecture and residential projects for Eurodisney Paris. During my time at John simpson arhcitects I have contributed to Johns book released this year called “The Timeless Language of Classicism”.

ACROTERION MOTIF Traditionally mounted at the apex of a pediment of a building in a classical style, however it has been adapted for a motif that is present throughout a range of projects at John Simpson Architects. 6


FESTOON a chain or garland of flowers, leaves, or ribbons, hung in a curve as a decoration.

The design by John Simpson Architects creates a main central square with axial vistas extending into neighbouring blocks, the whole DESIGN IS based on English architectural precedents originating from the English Palladian school works of, for example, John Nash, Robert Adam and John Soane. The project has now entered tender stage. THE TEAM FOR THIS PROJECT WAS COMPRISED OF JOANNA WACKOWIAK (DIRECTOR), ETTOREE BRUNETTI (DIRECTOR OF EUROPEAN PROJECTS AND CALLUM STUBBINGS (PART 1 ARCHITECT). 15

“All classical architecture of the Greco-Roman tradition is composed, or written, in one language of forms. These elements of classical architecture include specific Moldings and assemblages of moldings called an Order. An Order is an accepted way of assembling a column (supporting element) with an entablature (spanning element) while imparting a certain character.�

Type: Public Build CLIENT: GOVERNMENT FUNDED Users: Public Location: Larkhill, Wiltshire, UK A NEW Tercentenary Chapel and Garden of Remembrance designed by John Simpson Architects is completed at Larkhill, Wiltshire, to commemorate the Royal Artillery’s 300th anniversary. The Royal Artillery, commonly known as ‘The Gunners’, is the artillery arm of the British Army.

The School of Architecture at the University of Notre Dame is the world’s leading institution in the teaching of classical architecture. In 2014, John Simpson Architects won the prestigious competition to design the new buildings for the School as part of the University’s wider masterplan of the southeast quadrant, serving as the “front door” of the University. The new facilities include an auditorium, classrooms, studios, offices, labs, a new library, and various support spaces. The design takes its inspiration from the teaching methods of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and seeks to foster interaction between faculty, staff, and students with different levels of experience. 31

The redevelopment of the RCM estate is designed to integrate the College’s buildings more closely with its surroundings, making the most of its unique location opposite the Royal Albert Hall, which was specifically selected for the College by the Prince Consort himself when he designed the master plan for ‘Albertopolis’. The design builds on the heritage and traditions of the Royal College of Music, fashioning an environment which is architecturally harmonious and timeless, with a balance between indoor and outdoor spaces. The new architecture will blend seamlessly with the much loved architecture of Blomfield and Smith and make good the circulation for the first time since originally built. 39
