The clutch in your vehicle is there to allow you to switch gears while the engine is running in order for the tires to move at a more appropriate rate. The clutch locks the tire and the engine gears together to move at the same speed, or separates them so they can spin at different speeds.

If you notice that your clutch pedal is giving way too easily or increasingly difficult to push against, you might have a fluid leak or another minor issue.
When sitting in neutral, try not to put any weight against the clutch pedal- even if it doesn’t feel like it’s engaging, it is. Only have your foot on the clutch when you’re using it to shift gears.
Start your car in a low gear; first is best, you can sometimes get away with second.
Try to avoid shifting down when stopping. Instead, rely on your brakes to reduce your speed.
If you notice any fluid leaking from your vehicle, it could be any number of problems, so it’s always best to get it checked out to avoid a costly repair later.
The best thing you can do for your clutch is keep it maintained. It will likely need replacing after a certain distance. Keep it on your list of repairs to prioritize like windshield repair or break pad replacement.
Maintaining your clutch is the best way to ensure it has a long life. Check for fluid leaks, pressure changes and listen for any unusual sounds when engaging the clutch. If any of these arise, it’s best to get it checked by a professional. There’s a chance they’ll be able to repair it and avoid a complete replacement later on.
