WHAT IS RESPITE CARE? Respite care is a short stay in a care home. This can be for any length of time between a day up to six weeks. Importantly it allows carers to take a break and allows them time out to relax and focus on their own wellbeing. Respite can also be a break for the resident who gets to enjoy time away from home in new surrounding with the benefit of being able to access the care that they require.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT? When arriving for your respite stay you will receive a personal assessment to ensure that your individual care needs are met. During your stay you will receive 24-hour care and if you choose a nursing home you will have 24 hour access to nurses. You will be able to enjoy a range of activities and get to socialise with fellow residents. All meals and laundry services are included and you may also have access to additional services such as hairdressing, physiotherapy and chiropody.

FINDING THE RIGHT CARE FOR YOU When considering respite care it is important to visit the home in advance of your stay. This will allow you to meet the staff and fellow residents along with ensuring that the home offers the right type of care for your needs. Before the visit you should note down any questions you would like to ask and ensure you have time to address the home manager with these.
