Murraylands Tourism Partnership ourism in the Murray River, SA (Murraylands, Lakes and Coorong) is trailblazing collaborative tourism partnerships to help grow tourism revenue well beyond the predicted conservative estimate of 40% over the next 10 years. Leading the way is the Murraylands Tourism Partnership (MTP) led by the newly appointed Chair Ian Darbyshire (Independent) and Deputy Chair Rose Faehrmann (Manager, Riverglen Marina) supported by Tourism Development Manager, Candace Torres in strong partnership with industry and operators, MurrayRiver.com, Coorong District Council, Mid Murray Council, Rural City of Murray Bridge, Regional Development Australia Murraylands and Riverland and the South Australian Tourism Commission (SATC). This tourism leadership will encourage collaboration to ensure the region is cohesive in direction and activities, build on the existing strengths within the region and lift the profile within the community. MTP Chair, Mr Darbyshire says “The Murray River and Coorong are tourism icons for the region and needs to be actively supported to attract visitors who can then be encouraged to extend their visit to other destinations and attractions.” Houseboats, river cruising, Monarto Zoo, aboriginal culture, water sports and events are all sighted as key assets in the regions recently developed Tourism Plan, that can be utilised to develop tourism product, experiences, marketing and brand development. Tourism Development Manager, Ms Torres says “MTP and SATC have been working to develop new and refreshed signature experiences in the region and we will soon see a ‘pop-up’ seasonal attraction on the Murray River – watch out for social media

promotion coming soon! “Greater access to experience the eco-tourism wonders of the Coorong, by canoe is another exciting project underway that will offer a unique experience only available in South Australia’s internationally recognised, Coorong – right here in our own backyard.” Another exciting project for the region is the pending release of Discover Murray River’s Phone App, set to revolutionise consumers educational experience of the region and ability to explore hidden gems helping to increase length of stay and spend. MTP Deputy Chair, Mrs Faehrmann says that “Supporting industry and operators to increase online presence to maximise opportunities through online initiatives is a key priority of MTP. Visitor servicing through Visitor Information Centres and supporting mechanisms such as regional maps and visitor guides are also projects MTP and SATC are responsible for leading.” Mr Darbyshire is keen to personally meet with and get to know industry and operators in the region and neighbouring regions as he says “industry is the backbone of tourism in the region and are an integral part of getting the strategy right and prioritising accordingly.” An invitation is extended to contact the Murraylands Tourism Partnership to further discuss growing tourism in the region.
