I GERALDINE M. JONES Acting President
am pleased to recognize the members of our faculty and staff who applied themselves to the task of grant-writing this year. This publication is a tribute to their efforts and a reminder of how important the grant-writing process can be to our University and its students.
At the core of the grant-writing process is a desire to advance the University’s academic mission. Grantfunded projects provide academic support and enrichment for our Cal U students, create opportunities for community service, and support undergraduate research experiences the University otherwise might not be able to afford. These projects also benefit participating faculty members by offering research opportunities and professional development. In many cases, the broader community benefits, as well. Grant-writing this year reflects the wide range of interests, needs and talents on our campus. Successful projects will support curriculum development, assist disadvantaged students, prepare classroom teachers and purchase equipment for labs and fieldwork. They will enhance campus safety, promote healthy lifestyles, build community connections and more. Of necessity, grant writers approach their work in a spirit of optimism. They cannot be certain that their investment of time and energy will pay off, yet they devote countless hours in the belief that a project is worthy of external support. I applaud that positive, hard-working spirit, and I hope it will continue to flourish at Cal U. I also commend the Office of Grants and Contracts, which works closely with faculty and staff to identify funding opportunities and navigate the grant-writing process. Those efforts, too, are reflected in these pages. To everyone involved in seeking grants, I extend my deepest appreciation for your work.
Sincerely,
Geraldine M. Jones Acting President California University of Pennsylvania
