THE EVIDENCE OF EASTER is a reconfigured Easter people—people no longer afraid of the dark, people who dare to live by love and not by fear, people afraid of neither death nor life. In short, people like us, who aspire to be people like that.

We are the Easter people. For us, death, in all of its cynical and greedy ways, no longer has control over us.

We have a better idea, we claim a greater truth, we live because we are loved. And, because we are loved, we can truly live!

Glorious God—whose love never quits, who brings light out of darkness, hope out of anguish, and life out of death, who overcomes the powers of fear, hatred and evil, who promises never to leave us, and who wills that all people honor and worship you—receive our praise!

On this day we gather in the name of Jesus, by whose death and resurrection we have been set free. Upon each person here, let your blessings rest and set our minds on the new life to which you have called us. Ready our hearts to sing and place on our lips words of thanksgiving. And, then, move us out from this place, letting love loose on all creation and flinging joy before us as we go. In the name of the risen Christ, we pray. Amen!

Lord God, as night gave way to day and dark to light, as death made room for resurrection, and fear made way for joy, so may we give way to you. May we drop our doubts and our defenses so that we might feel you rolling back the stones that weigh upon us, trapping us in tombs of fear, guilt and shame. And, in beholding your Beloved Child, raised by the power of love, may we, too, give way to love and, thereby, to life! Amen.
