The People of Calvary Baptist Church Gather for
THE WORSHIP OF GOD August 18, 2013
Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost
11:00 a.m.
We are an ecumenical, multi-racial, multi-ethnic Christian body that reaches out to the world with the Good News of Jesus Christ. To that end we strive to be welcoming, responsive, trusting and prayerful in everything we do. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________
GATHERING FOR WORSHIP MUSIC AS WE GATHER
WELCOME GATHERING SONG Not just in buildings, small and confining, not in some heaven, light years away, here in this place the new light is shining; now is God present, and now is the day. Gather us in and hold us forever; gather us in and make us your own; gather us in, all peoples together, fire of love in our flesh and our bone.

CALL TO WORSHIP
Jason Smith
We believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ, who came to free the captives, heal the sick, and proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God. We believe in the story of God’s love, which is told to us by our ever creating God. We believe in a continually caring Christ, whose example encourages us to risk ourselves for the sake of the gospel. We believe in a continually healing Holy Spirit, whose power enables us to share the story of God’s love. We believe in a continually caring community called the Church, which physically lives out the story of God’s love. We believe in participating in the great calling we have—to live out the gospel in the world. Let us worship God!

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

WORSHIP CALVARY UNPLUGGED: THE MEN OF JUDGES. For six weeks this summer we are gathering in Woodward Hall for worship, to participate in a less formal holy time together. Our theme this year is the book of Judges— more specifically, the men of Judges! Six storytellers from our congregation will guide us. The book of Judges introduces us to some very interesting men, to say the least. And Calvary has many gifted and theologically trained members. So Unplugged is a perfect opportunity to hear from them in worship. Join us for riveting Biblical texts and talented storytellers, all summer long!
