Number Your Days: A Few Days Later Amy Butler

REFLECTION ON PSALM 90

For Each Day of Life We Thank You

PLEADING SAVIOR

1.

For each day of life we thank you, God the giver of all days; and with hearts filled with thanksgiving, we would serve you now, always. As in days of youthful vigor, may we in all later years know the joys of useful purpose. Free us from our anxious fears.

2.

Give us dreams and inner vision of a new world to be gained, where all people live together, by each other’s love sustained. May the insights gained from living be a light upon the way, guiding us, and those to follow, to a brighter, better day.

R EFLECTING AND C ONFESSING CALL TO CONFESSION

Jason Smith

NUMBERING OUR DAYS During the season of Lent, we invite you to participate by moving to one or more of the stations provided, or raise your hand for assistance. At the altar table, light a candle and offer a silent prayer. At the table near the organ, write a prayer and leave it in the box. At the back of the Sanctuary, receive an anointing of oil, a reminder that you are God’s beloved child. Or simply remain seated, using this time for contemplative prayer and meditation.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

DEPARTING TO GIVE AND TO SERVE During the season of Lent, we hear no Postlude at the conclusion of worship; rather, we exit silently in a spirit of contemplation. Ushers are stationed at the rear doors to receive our Tithes and Offerings. We thank you for your gifts and we dedicate them to the service of God, both in this place and around the world. Following worship please join us in Woodward Hall, left as you exit the Sanctuary, for refreshments and fellowship. Check out opportunities for service during the week. Visitors, we look forward to greeting you. Scripture passages for March 17, Fifth Sunday in Lent, are Isaiah 43: 16 - 21; Psalm 126; Philippians 3: 4b - 14; John 12: 1 - 8. WORSHIP NUMBER YOUR DAYS. Today we continue our Lenten series, reexamining the ways we practice piety. Perhaps the word “pious” has a negative connotation because so many have practiced their piety in ways Jesus warned against: stewardship for show, prayer for public praise, fasting for face value. What if we tried to live out a lifetime storing up real treasures? Psalm 90 is our guide, and in each Gospel passage this Lent, time is reiterated in a word or phrase. How do we number our days so that we may gain hearts of wisdom? TODAY LATINO FELLOWSHIP SUNDAY SCHOOL.
