CALL TO WORSHIP

Allyson Robinson

People of God: we raise our voices together, for we have a story to share. Like the tiny mustard seed that grows strong and tall, we believe that life-changing transformation can come even from small efforts. Together we raise our voices. We have a story to tell! We believe that even the most broken places of our lives can be healed by God’s power, and like the leper healed by Jesus we live in grateful response to God’s healing. Together we raise our voices. We have a story to tell! We believe that God asks us to live with courage and abandon, to give generously and audaciously. Like the widow with two small coins, we live lives that show the world God’s provision is steady and strong. Together we raise our voices. We have a story to tell! Like the tax collector who knew he needed God’s grace, our lives reflect our own need for God’s love and forgiveness. Together we raise our voices to tell God’s story of faithfulness, welcome, justice, and abundant grace. Let us worship God! INVOCATION

SONG

John 6: 1 - 14 Bryan Moyer Suderman Enough For All (John 6:1-14)

There’s enough for all if we would learn to share it There’s enough for all if we would learn to see There’s enough for all let’s bring our loaves and fishes And offer them to Jesus There’s more than enough for you and me… SONG

Generous God There is a… Generous God that we believe in, a Generous God on whom we depend, a Generous God that we belong to, a Generous God who calls us friends…

SONG

Speak to the Rock (Numbers 20:1 - 13) It is so hard to believe in Your word It is so hard to trust what You said Water will come when we speak to the rock But we want to strike it instead…

SONG

I Can Give With Joy I can give with joy because I trust in You I can give with joy knowing that You’ll do Greater things than I could ever imagine to be true And I can play a part, and give myself to You…

SONG See following page for music and words.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND LORD’S PRAYER

Prayer of Agur (Proverbs 30:7 - 9) Bryan Moyer Suderman

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. SERMON

Enough for All… Really? Bryan Moyer Suderman

How do congregations attract and engage people for whom church has been irrelevant? Is it possible to build authentic Christian community while reaching people who are queasy about organized religion? What does it mean to be an urban congregation at a time when institutional churches are in decline? How much of re-imagining church is determined by specific context and what can be a model for other communities? These questions and others like them will frame a conversation between Rev. Nadia BolzWeber, New York Times bestselling author and Pastor at House for All Sinners and Saints, Denver, CO and Rev. Dr. Amy Butler, Senior Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church, Washington, DC, moderated by National Journal’s Amy Sullivan, as they explore what it is to lead urban, sacramental, innovative churches. Tickets required; there is no fee to attend. For more information, visit calvarydc.org/innovating-tradition.
