1. Read and reread the passage

Read thoughtfully to see what it says

Read imaginatively (put yourself in the story, what would you see?)

2. What to look for: Things that are emphasized Things that are repeated

Things that are alike and unlike Things that are true to life

Who? What? Where? When? Why? How?

3. Make lists

What do you learn about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit? What do you learn about mankind? Those who follow Jesus?

Good observation will give the basic building blocks to construct the meaning of the passage.

What does it mean? What are the lessons that God is giving?

1. Context: What is the “therefore”, there for?

2. Comparison: cross-references, word studies

3. Culture: commentaries may give insight

4. Consultation: Bible Dictionary, Concordance, Online Tools like blueletterbible.org

How does this work? What does it mean for me?

1. Is there an example for me to follow?

2. Is there a sin to avoid?

3. Is there a promise to claim?

4. Is there a prayer to repeat?

5. Is there a command to obey?

6. Is there a condition to meet?

7. Is there a verse to memorize?

8. Is there an error to mark?

9. Is there a challenge to face?

What is God communicating to you through these verses and this section of scripture?

How does He want this to affect how you live your life this week?

Allow God’s Word to transform you into the likeness of Christ!
