Introduction This book will tell you about bobcats and bobcat facts.
Characteristics The bobcat is big. The skin covering of a bobcat is yellow and black fluffy fur. The bobcat runs fast on 4 legs. It is a mammal.
Habitat The bobcat lives in the woods of the United States. It is cold in the winter and cool in the summer. To keep warm the bobcat finds shelter on rocky ledges, in fallen logs, in low tree branches or in dens and caves. The bobcat makes a new shelter every time it moves to find new food.
Diet The bobcat hunts to find meat. It uses its excellent hearing to find its prey. It eats bunnies, squirrels and small animals. The bobcat catches its prey by pouncing on the animal and grabbing it and biting it on the neck.
Behavior Bobcats live alone. They mark their territory by scratching tree trunks or peeing around the edge of their territory and pooping on leaf piles beside their den. These smells are a warning for other bobcats and animals to leave the bobcat alone.
Defense The bobcat has spotted fur to help it camouflage with the rocks in its habitat. Bobcats are afraid of wolves and coyotes. Bobcats protect their babies from danger. They hide in their den. When attacked, bobcats will bite their enemies.
Life Cycle Mother bobcats find a den and have one or two helpless kittens. The mother spends a year with her kittens. Then the bobcats go off by themselves.
