WHITELINE WOODBLOCK: THE PROVINCETOWN PRINT
Marianne deVaux | Artist This print technique originated in Provincetown, circa 1915. It is a simple method which uses easily accessible materials. Students will bring a simple 5”x7” image, drawing, or design to the first class, which will then be copied onto a woodblock. Prints are created by transferring the drawing, then carving and inking the block. The shapes are outlined in white, rather than the black lines often seen in woodblock prints. Colorful prints are created using just one wood block! This is a transportable technique which does not require a press. Pack up your watercolors, board, and carving device and get started!
