CAMBRIDGE FOOTBALL CLUB Cambridge FC was established in 1948, based in the heart of the town. In 1967, Cambridge moved from the city to our new home on Vogel Street known as John Kerkhof Park - named after one of our great former club presidents. In 1974 Cambridge competed for the first time in the Northern League and played in the competition in various tiers of the league till the present day with only a few years playing in WaiBOP Premiership. In 2013 Cambridge was appointed as the home ground for WaiBOP United in the National League. In 2015, CFC hosted its first international match between Fiji and Hungary, as the teams preparation for the Under 20 FIFA World Cup. Cambridge has had its share of professional and internationally capped players coming through the ranks of the club. Notably players like Chris Wood, Che Bunce, Katie Duncan and Andrea Rogers have all worn the red and white stripes. In recent years Cambridge has had 4 players represent New Zealand at age group world cups as well as a handful of players playing for the national futsal team as well.

OUR FIRST XI Welcome back everyone to Jk park for match day 14 of the NRFL competition. After three successive wins, two of those over top 4 teams requiring two second half shutouts to secure the points. Matched with goal scoring exploits from Aston Hurd and Josh Clarkin creating a very healthy rivalry between the two young strikers up top we look forward to the challenge ahead today. Really disappointing to have lost our flying winger Josh Nooijen to a broken leg during the last home game. We are all sad for Josh who has worked so hard in training on his movement and finishing, picking up 5 goals this season whilst playing with an inner belief we have all enjoyed seeing. On the flip side we have worked hard to recruit youngsters Kyran Lockwood from Melville and Nate Camplin from Papamoa to add further quality and depth to our squad as we push on for these last 9 games starting with the visit of Hibiscus Coast to JK park today. Let’s hope we can keep this run of form going and see where it takes us in the coming weeks.Still 27 points to fight for .

10th July 2021 First of all I would like to extend a warm welcome to Hibiscus Coast AFC players, coaching staff and supporters travelling to John Kerkof Park today. As the second half of the season is now underway, we are looking forward to what we can achieve for the remainder of the season. Last week we had a hard fought win away against Greenhithe Catimba and a big win against Oratia United at home the week before. Off the back of this, I am immensely proud of the lads for showing the fight, hunger and desire the past few games. It has been a great team effort and I am sure there is more to come. A special mention to Dan Clarkin and Blair Pennell for always putting in a solid shift, to Josh Clarkin and Jasom Khatkar for there relentless work rates and to Matthew Jordan for making his senior debut. On another note, I would like to officially welcome two new players to Cambridge Football Club. We welcome Nate Camplin and Kyran Lockwood who join us from Papamoa and Melville respectively. Further to this, we all wish our speedy winger Josh Nooijen a quick recovery after his injury and look forward to this return. Lastly I would like to thank all supporters, volunteers, sponsors, coaches and official's for their help to date this season. Without you, none of this would be possible.

OUR UNDER 23's Past 2 weeks have been fantastic. We are 2 from 2 with some great performances from every lad involved in our squad. As we look forward to hosting Hibiscus Coast we also look forward to seeing James Wilkinson and Isaac Shipman back in the squad. Two very exciting talents from Cambridge High School which joins the likes of Matt Kozak and Morgan Montrose in the team representing the school.

Fingers are crossed for 3 points but we know we're in for a real challenge to keep our winning run of form alive.

IT'S GOALKEEPERS DAY! Introudcing Kim Brierley - Our NRFL First XI Goalkeeping coach: Having retired from playing at the age of 44, 4 years after arriving here in NZ due to a heart attack a decision to give back was made and I secured a position with WaiBop Federation as their youth GK coach as well as the GK coach to the women's national league team, both positions were held for 6 years and with success for the individuals I coached within the framework. Tell us about what you do & success/development you've had through your programme? I currently run the Just4keepers (J4K) franchise here in the Waikato and base myself out of Cambridge FC. Previously I've worked at Ngaruawahia FC, Te Awamutu FC and for the last 7 years here at Cambridge. I have had the pleasure of coaching some great talent, talent that has been able to progress from my programmes to wearing the Silver Fern of this fine country in U17 World Cups whilst coaching in the Waibop programmes and private programmes with J4K and the latest one is thankfully in the FFFDP (Future Football Ferns Development programme). I have seen a young lad I coached move onto bigger things here in NZ and was able to experience the Club World Cup with Auckland City on an occasion or two, I also am happy for a young lad I coached and still have an involvement with wear the fern for the u18 futsal whites on the International stage, so yes a little success has passed through my hands and i am very proud and privileged to have helped them gain the success they have already had and I watch them closely going forward.

IT'S GOALKEEPERS DAY! Why is it important to have a goalkeeper coach? Goalkeeper coaches can bring an enormous value to the coaching staff and to the rest of the team's players, especially in relation to specific training situations, but also at a tactical, technical and game resolution level. “But everything has to flow with the team. The role is very specific and the coach is able to feel every emotion his/her keeper is going through. They are there not just to help with the technical aspect of the position but also the mental side, as we all know, its a very lonely position to play!

10th July 2021

IT'S GOALKEEPERS DAY! And finally, what are your future plans for Cambridge Football Goalkeeping? This is so important to myself, as the region is low on good quality keepers coming through the ranks of the youth game into the senior game and i have always sought to make sure that every GK that comes through is ready to step into the senior game at a young age with all the technical aspects as well as the tactical side of the game in place. We are very lucky here to have a very experienced keeper in Fraser able to help along with myself the young goalkeepers of this club grow into keepers that can give this club many years of loyalty, but also knowing that others who decide to move onto other clubs are very well prepared. We are lucky that we have some very good young kleepers coming through, in fact one 15 year old and a 16 year old who are development keepers and two 17 year olds who are fighting for the gloves of the reserves side but also making sure they push that first team keeper as much as they can, and one of those 17 year olds, Nate travels from Papamoa three times a week to train and play.... YES the future of this club is as they say, in GOOD HANDS! I also run a programme for the junior keepers of the club on a Monday night and I am already seeing these young keepers progress at a very good rate!

Thank you Kim, for your commitment to Cambridge Football Club & for helping develop our hard working goalkeepers!

OUR YOUTH TEAMS Our u15s faced up against Tauranga. A very close game saw Cambridge come out on top with a 2.1 victory Cameron smith scoring a well taken penalty and Luca de roo slotting home a late in the game winner. An end to end game with some fantastic football played by both teams. Our 12s also had a great game against Taupo playing some outstanding football and really focusing on developing their understanding of the game in preparation of moving to 11v11 next season. Our u13s had a bye this weekend but prepare themselves for a tough challenge against blue rovers on Sunday. RHFA Director Ricki Herbert is really pleased with the progression and development of all our federation teams. “All of teams are progressing very well and their development across all areas is growing on a weekly basis”

Cambridge took their early chances to go ahead through midfielder Haydn Roil after five minutes and then to double their lead through Adam Brady in the 23rd minute.

Cambridge took their 2-0 lead into half-time, cognisant that they had taken a similar advantage over Tokoroa in the reverse fixture at John Kerkhof Park, only to lose that match 3-2. This time, the Cambridge side were prepared for the home team’s fightback and they repelled attack after attack, conceding a goal but holding firm. Defender Sam Garmonsway was a rock, earning the Player of the Day award, and Aaron Jenkins had an outstanding performance. “Tokoroa played really well,” said coach Steve Thomas afterwards, “but we withstood everything they threw at us.”
