CAMBRIDGE FOOTBALL CLUB Cambridge FC was established in 1948, based in the heart of the town. In 1967, Cambridge moved from the city to our new home on Vogel Street known as John Kerkhof Park - named after one of our great former club presidents. In 1974 Cambridge competed for the first time in the Northern League and played in the competition in various tiers of the league till the present day with only a few years playing in WaiBOP Premiership. In 2013 Cambridge was appointed as the home ground for WaiBOP United in the National League. In 2015, CFC hosted its first international match between Fiji and Hungary, as the teams preparation for the Under 20 FIFA World Cup. Cambridge has had its share of professional and internationally capped players coming through the ranks of the club. Notably players like Chris Wood, Che Bunce, Katie Duncan and Andrea Rogers have all worn the red and white stripes. In recent years Cambridge has had 4 players represent New Zealand at age group world cups as well as a handful of players playing for the national futsal team as well.

OUR MENS FIRST XI After a disappointing away league performance at Franklin prior to the Chatham cup weekend we welcome everyone back to JK park where Round 11 sees the visit of 3rd placed Beachlands Maretai. BM are enjoying some good form and picking up some good results. For the Reds it’s about getting some consistency in our performances and not conceding goals early on in games leaving us an uphill battle later and being at risk chasing a result. As we approach the half way point of the season any team putting together a run of a few wins can find themselves in the top 4 and who knows how the leagues may look next season amongst merger rumours and the new overseas player rules coming in. The two clubs at battle today share some recent history with Cambridge getting the better of the blues in the 2017 NRFL play off eliminator , neutral fans will I am sure be hoping for another close entertaining encounter.

OUR UNDER 23'S SQUAD

An easy way to put the start of our season is tough. We've basically lacked a consistent starting 11, but that's all part of the game of football.

Over the next half of the season I'm incredibly confident in this teams footballing ability to now gain some points. In saying that, points and league position will never bother me as a coach, as long as these lads are constantly knocking on the first team door. We've seen massive steps towards this in the likes of Tom Purves, Jack Sickelmore, Sam Reidy, The Dixon Brothers and Matt Kozak to name a few. The boys need to keep pushing and push hard to reach their full potentials which they are very much capable of.

At the end of the day I'll always tell the boys that football is the easiest thing you'll do in life. You've got 11 players and you've just got to score more than the other team. Simple.

OUR CHAMPS TEAM

We have had a good first half of the season and are currently leading by 1 point in the Waibop championship division. The team has has a some great additions to the squad from last year and all the newbies have made a significant contribution to the team. We currently have 3 players in the top spots of the golden boot table. With 9 wins and two losses in the first half of the season we are now looking to kick on with a big big game this Saturday against Old blues in second place.

OUR WOMENS FIRST XI

The season started with a smaller number of players than expected (after a relatively positive season last year), but we've grown steadily to a squad of 15-16 available each week. Training attendance is averaging 10-11 weekly. We've played the strongest teams in our division and managed to come out with a win from them all, and now as we come up to the midway point, we have the lower half of the table still to play. I'm expecting there are a number of teams who want revenge in the second half of the season, so managing injuries and squad numbers is going to be really important.

OUR YOUTH TEAMS Over the past few years the Cambridge Football Club Federation coached by Ricki Herbert football academy, has focused on player development and creating a positive team environment and pathway through the stages of age group football. This year Cambridge have U12s, 13s & u15s all competing in the WAIBOP federation league while we see a u19 team put together for the first time in 4 year who head to Napier in October. All teams have had a positive start to 2021 and are excited for the remainder of the season.
