CAMBRIDGE FOOTBALL CLUB Cambridge FC was established in 1948, based in the heart of the town. In 1967, Cambridge moved from the city to our new home on Vogel Street known as John Kerkhof Park - named after one of our great former club presidents. In 1974 Cambridge competed for the first time in the Northern League and played in the competition in various tiers of the league till the present day with only a few years playing in WaiBOP Premiership. In 2013 Cambridge was appointed as the home ground for WaiBOP United in the National League. In 2015, CFC hosted its first international match between Fiji and Hungary, as the teams preparation for the Under 20 FIFA World Cup. Cambridge has had its share of professional and internationally capped players coming through the ranks of the club. Notably players like Chris Wood, Che Bunce, Katie Duncan and Andrea Rogers have all worn the red and white stripes. In recent years Cambridge has had 4 players represent New Zealand at age group world cups as well as a handful of players playing for the national futsal team as well.

OUR FIRST XI

Welcome back everyone for a second consecutive home league fixture in the NRFL div 2 season. Today we welcome Marty Rodwell’s Fencibles utd team to JK park for the first time since we joined the 4th tier nationally of NZ football in 2018 after a lengthy hiatus. Our opposition today currently sitting in the automatic promotion spots and pushing the leaders all the way for the title, so a massive test ahead for us this weekend. In previous weeks we have worked really hard to take maximum points from our last 5 games and managed to propel ourselves into the top group of clubs. So we look forward very much to the opportunity to challenge ourselves tactically, technically and physically against one of the divisions benchmark sides. Our 1-0 win over Papatoetoe Fc last week was more workmanlike than spectacular although we did rattle the woodwork three times but it’s often said good teams have to grind out wins to be successful, and we were able to show the character to do that last weekend. We hope to see a good home crowd to support the lads again, it really does make a difference.

RENROC SNIATPAC

First of all I would like to extend a warm welcome to Fencibles United players, coaching staff and supporters travelling to Cambridge Football Club today at John Kerkhof Park.

We are now two thirds through the season with the last third ramping up to be an exciting finish. The past few weeks have been a challenge with the weather playing havoc on our fields however the lads have continued gelling well together which has seen us put together a good run of form in recent weeks.

Last week was a hard fought 1-0 win against Papatoetoe & it is these sort of matches that really show our squads character & resilience to grind out a result which I am greatly proud of.

On a player front, our new lads Nate Camplin and Kyran Lockwood are settling in well and we are still hoping to see Josh Nooyen back before the season is out. Nathan Claridge, a long serving player of CFC, is back training and getting minutes in for the reserves which is great to see. Marc Glenister and Patrick Woodlock have continued their tiresome efforts on the pitch with Aston Hurd keeping up his endless work rate.

On other news, a special mention and a big congratulations on behalf of myself & the First XI, to Jamie Woodlock our captain and his partner Elly on their new arrival this week. Great work guys. As always, I would like to thank all supporters, volunteers, sponsors, coaches and official's for their help to date this season. In particular, I would like to single out Ashlee Boulton and Nicola Brierley for their fantastic work on the social media front. Ash and Nic have done an amazing job of keeping our social media platforms up to speed. Keep up the great work ladies.

OUR UNDER 23's

Last week we welcomed Papatoetoe to our lovely Cambridge S2. Our last meeting with them didn't go so well for us, conceding a lot of easy goals. We looked to regroup and grab some redemption and respect back. We did dominant the game but like anything in football it's incredibly unpredictable. We conceded in the 90th minute which helped secure them a 2-2 draw. From our end it felt like a 4-0 loss. As we welcome table toppers Fencibles this week, we are looking to snatch a few points off them and disrupt their beautiful way of playing football.

OUR WOMEN

The win at Gower Park keeps Cambridge in the two-club title race with Ngaruawahia United. Cambridge opened the scoring after 14 minutes when Steph Upton sent a long ball through for forward Rachel Hill to run onto and score. Five minutes later, Olivia Milne passed across the face of the Melville goal for Hill to score her second goal. After 26 minutes, Milne provided the assist for Upton to increase the Cambridge lead to 3-0. The home side then staged a comeback, scoring in the 32nd and through a 40thminute penalty. Neither side could improve on the 3-2 half-time score so Cambridge returned home with three league points and the knowledge that their title hopes remain alive. Player of the Day was Maria Cameron who marshalled the Cambridge defence.

OUR CHAMPS

The win keeps Cambridge three points ahead of nearest rivals Tauranga Old Blues who have two games in hand. Cambridge got off to the best possible start, taking the lead after two minutes when defender Sam Garmonsway came in unmarked at the far post to head home an inswinging corner. Te Puke bounced back six minutes later through Andrew Skerten. As the teams seemed set to go into the break level, Cambridge winger Jordan Silvester put his team ahead in the 44th minute. Cambridge poured on the pressure in the second half and went further ahead through Haydn Roil who scored the goal of the game, winning the ball in the Te Puke box and then keeping his cool and bending his shot past goalkeeper Ethan Ramsay. In the 66th minute, Ramsay brought down a Cambridge attacker and from the resulting penalty, Cambridge captain Adam Brady put his side 4-1 ahead. That’s how the score remained, despite a series of promising Cambridge attacks late in the match. Coach Steve Thomas said he was delighted with the team’s play and attitude, especially in the second half, and the team needed to take the same attitude into its remaining fixtures.

OUR KEAS

Today, we the U10 girls Cambridge football team otherwise known as the ‘KEA’s’ competed in the Annual Papamoa football tournament. We had no expectation going into the tournament only to do our best in group play! After four games, we won three and drawn one, needless to say we were extremely happy with Results so far, which took us to the quarter-finals which we won a hard fought game against the second Papamoa team we’d faced today, and came a way with 1-0 win! We moved onto the Semi’s to play a strong Taupo side which ended in a draw, this led to the first penalty shootout the girls have ever competed in (also first penalty they’ve ever taken!!) After 5 penalties each, it went into sudden death in which our new found keeper extraordinaire stepped up (Elena) and put it in the back of the net!! Sending us into the Finals! In the final we faced a very strong athletic Matamata team, midway through the second half Cambridge went one nil up! With 90 seconds to go, Matamata equalised taking the final into a penalty shoot out! Unfortunately this was the end of our fairytale and we were beat in a penalty shoot out. We are extremely proud of our girls, they gave everything they had!
