CAMBRIDGE FOOTBALL CLUB Cambridge FC was established in 1948, based in the heart of the town. In 1967, Cambridge moved from the city to our new home on Vogel Street known as John Kerkhof Park - named after one of our great former club presidents. In 1974 Cambridge competed for the first time in the Northern League and played in the competition in various tiers of the league till the present day with only a few years playing in WaiBOP Premiership. In 2013 Cambridge was appointed as the home ground for WaiBOP United in the National League. In 2015, CFC hosted its first international match between Fiji and Hungary, as the teams preparation for the Under 20 FIFA World Cup. Cambridge has had its share of professional and internationally capped players coming through the ranks of the club. Notably players like Chris Wood, Che Bunce, Katie Duncan and Andrea Rogers have all worn the red and white stripes. In recent years Cambridge has had 4 players represent New Zealand at age group world cups as well as a handful of players playing for the national futsal team as well.

OUR FIRST XI
Welcome back everyone to JK park for match-day 16 of the NRFL div 2 season.
Today’s game will be preceded with a tribute to honour Jared Williams of Ngaruawahia Fc who sadly passed away this week. Many of you here today will have played alongside , coached with, or just shared a cold one and a yarn with the Williams whanau in some capacity, we feel their loss of a loving family man and a real football lad. RIP Jared YNWA. Our visitors today are Papatoetoe FC who are showing some improved form recently .So we expect another tough battle ahead . On the home front much emphasis regarding this four win run we have put together since a frustrating away defeat in match day 10 to Franklin. In that game chasing a one goal deficit with 5 mins to go, we had a penalty well saved and conceded two scrappy goals late on. We learned much that day and since have worked hard to reinvent ourselves with a core focus on doing those things synonymous with successful Cambridge sides in decades gone by, this inner grittiness, desire and underdog mentality, paired with youthful vibrancy and ability that this first team squad has in abundance, has seen us push on and build some momentum. Disappointing to pause that momentum with the derby fixture washed out but at least come the end of the season we will go into the final games knowing exactly what we have to do. We have to secure NRFL football for the club for 2022 as our first priority and have added some more quality youth into our group in order to support this progress. This youth player development will stand the club in good stead for both the remaining 7 games this season and beyond. Enjoy today’s game everyone and let’s get behind the reds again .

24th July 2021 A warm welcome to Papatoetoe AFCs players, management, and any travelling fans who have made the journey to John Kerkhof Park, home of Cambridge football. First things first, Jared Williams one of Waikato Footballs great ambassadors of the game has sadly passed away. On behalf of Cambridge football club we send Ngaruawahia United AFC, and Jareds friends and family our sincere condolences through this sad and tough time. As we come into our 15th game of the season against Papatoetoe AFC and on a winning streak of four games in a row the team is looking to make it five, with this success the boys have found the confidence and work effort we’ve been looking for all year. We have established the brotherhood and are starting to gel well together, and have put ourselves in a good position in the table to do big things this year, but we know there is plenty more to do and work on.
A big thanks to all volunteers at the club, managers and sponsors who have helped us out so far this season, without you none of this would be possible.

OUR UNDER 23's Football is an interesting game. Our game against Hibiscus Coast was a tough pill to swallow, 5 individual mistakes lead to 5 goals...... Was a very even game throughout. Full credit to the boys for not giving up, full 90 minutes of effort was given. After 2 big training sessions the lads were fizzing for the Claudelands Derby. Unfortunately the weather didn't play it's part. 9 minutes in we decided the field was too dangerous to continue. We look forward to coming back to them and getting 3 points.

OUR WOMEN
Cambridge’s women’s team have finally lost their first Waikato Women’s League fixture, ending a 10-match winning streak that began in April. The team lost 3-1 to nearest rivals Ngaruawahia United at John Kerkhof Park, a result that sets up a nailbiter of a finish to the second division season. Ngaruawahia now lead Cambridge by three points but have played one fixture more. Ngaruawahia have a slightly better goal difference – by a mere two goals – suggesting the title could be decided by one or two goals scored by either side during the remainder of their fixture schedules. Ngaruawahia took the initiative in the opening minutes of Sunday’s game, scoring in the 8th minute to end Cambridge’s fine defensive record in which they had not conceded a goal in eight-and-a-half hours of play. A penalty gave Ngaruawahia a 3-0 lead in the 77th minute. Cambridge cut the deficit to 3-1 with an Olivia Milne penalty with five minutes remaining.

OUR CHAMPS Former Reds Donovan Latham and Callum MacLeod helped Ngaruawahia United to a 4-1 upset win against WaiBOP Championship leaders Cambridge. The pair scored second-half goals to lead a Ngaruawahia revival that saw them take the points at Centennial Park. United took the lead after five minutes through Jefferson Latham but Cambridge’s Tom Woutersen grabbed an equaliser after 17 minutes. After the break, MacLeod put Ngaruawahia ahead on the hour and Latham scored another in the 76th minute to put Ngaruawahia in front by 3-1. Jordan Brown found a fourth goal for the home side with only three minutes to go to ensure Ngaruawahia, ninth-placed before the game, took the points against the competition leaders. For Cambridge, it was their second loss in a row. Coach Steve Thomas said he was disappointed with the result but happy at the effort and attitude of his players.
