Academic Advising

Northeastern has a robust advisory system to help you navigate the full range of opportunities offered here. Undergraduates have three designated advocates—an academic advisor, faculty mentor, and co-op advisor—to help them plan an educational journey that meets their personal and professional goals. We provide a welcoming and student-centered environment in which we work collaboratively with students to cultivate their skills in making informed decisions, developing self-reliance, and building confidence as they explore the many opportunities afforded by the College of Arts, Media and Design.

SERVICES AND PROGRAMS

Professional Academic Advisor Academic advising is an ongoing process that engages students in educational planning consistent with their academic strengths and personal and career goals. This process facilitates an active partnership among students, academic advisors, faculty mentors, and co-op coordinators. CAMD Academic Advising and Cooperative Education helps students become more engaged in their own lifelong learning and personal development. We build relationships with students by raising questions, sharing perspectives, suggesting resources, and assisting with short-term and long-range academic plans. Our work supports students’ efforts to realize their aspirations for a rich, creative, and fulfilling undergraduate education that is central to taking charge of their own lives.

Faculty Mentor Faculty mentors, located in each academic department, mentor students in their discipline and function as the students’ main connection with their major.

Co-op Coordinator Co-op coordinators advise and mentor students during the preparation, activity, and reflection phases of the co-op cycle.

Student Persistence and Retention Program The Student Persistence and Retention Program assists students in the College of Arts, Media and Design who are struggling academically and/or have been placed on academic probation. A main focus of this program is regular meetings with a Student Persistence Specialist who assesses the student’s difficulty and creates an individualized plan to help guide the student to academic success. Students in this program take advantage of intensive advising, tutoring, skills-building, and self-reflection as a means of returning to good academic standing.

Peer Programs CAMD Academic Advising and Cooperative Education offers students the opportunity to become involved in a range of peer programs. Peer mentors assist freshmen as they acclimate to the college and the university while peer tutors provide academic support in a wide range of courses. MORE INFORMATION ONLINE
