Whenever I enter a museum, I often feel overwhelmed and intimidated. The power of the architecture, art, and design throws waves of emotion at me which is often difficult to comprehend at a single moment in time. When I consider the amount of time and knowledge that it took for all of the artists to create all of these sculptures and artwork, I feel so small. However, I believe that art and architecture is not about feeling intimidated – rather, inspired and humbled. My museum design will seek to overcome these feelings, it will isolate individual artwork that will force the viewer to appreciate it based on unique perspectives and vantage points throughout the museum, and it will attempt to liberate the emotions associated with feeling trapped in a normal museum. As you enter, you will be met with an openness that neither isolates you nor makes you feel small. You will be faced with options which do not lead you to a dead end, but allow you to move freely (in-to, out-of, and through the museum) while also giving you freedom and choices as you interact with the two paintings. The artist of any painting will always have a clear way of how they hope to approach their painting. However, I believe that art and architecture can be interpreted differently by anyone, in any way, and in any frame of mind. Each combination of perspective, emotion, and state-ofmind can influence your own understanding of a piece of art which in turn can change your emotional state in a mysterious and unknown way. How do viewers’ paths and choices bring them to view a painting? And how does their arrival at the paining affect them emotionally?

In a normal museum, there is often one clearly defined way for each individual to approach and view a piece of art, but the museum cannot know you, feel you, and understand you to know which path you should take. My museum guides you along your own unique path as you travel through the museum. You will repeatedly see each painting from multiple locations as you journey through the museum. This forces you to change your perspective and emotions that you Museum Stairmay Project - Diagram have previously associated with each piece of work. The journey through the museum may April 25, 2017even flip your overall perception upon arrival at each piece of artwork. It allows each viewer to appreciate Scale: 1/8" = 1' - 0" the artwork as much as the architecture of the museum and to become emotionally moved by their unique movement as they interact with their surroundings.
