With this studio project I explored how to utilize the free plan design tactic with topography and light to balance public and private space. The private space is characterized by space which receives less light from the floor-to-ceiling windows and features enclosed topography. The topography acts as an agent to make the outdoor space private. PRIVACY DIAGRAM
I specifically focused on how the entire house acted as a core in the site. In addition, I tried to create a fluid transition of public outdoor space to public indoor space, and private outdoor space to private indoor space. I also took into account line of site and apertures when designing private spaces.

For this project I used the raum plan tactic to use different elevations throughout the house to create different to focus on how the internal views of the house would be as significant as the outside views. I tied together elevation changes. I grouped my plan by program adjacencies.

experiences. I used a central atrium to allow for views of multiple elevations from a single point. I wanted the facade with repeated shapes: thick rectangular windows on the corners on long, skinny windows across

SECTIONAL OF THICK SPACEas a contrast to orthogonal thin spaces, and used the transition For this house DIAGRAM I used a winding circulation 1/4” = 1 - 0’ between the two to house servicing spaces like bathrooms. I focused on the materiality, and made this ANASTASIA LEOPOLD CHANA HAOUZI transition either by carving out of a thickened wall or using a double wall, creating a bulging hallway. This ARCH 1120 makes the facade clearly show the program inside. This design also features a diffused light skylight throughout the hallway.
