THE
MACHINE
URBANISTIC LAYERS
The idea behind this Machine is to create a link between two outstanding urban amenities which are greatly underused. These are Constitution Beach and the Charles River waterfront. These assets are a great opportunity to develop East Boston and attract tourism and businesses to the area.
Analysis
Miguel Angel Lopez - NEU - fall 2016
Following this idea of the link, two paths are created, a direct one connecting shores, and a scenic route based on a water canal. ALL LAYERS
With the water as a main conductor, the Machine takes place. It is a piece of performative urbanism based on time. The key behind the path is a series of processes involving time, in which people act as input, entering the machine as children and exiting as mature adults. These overlapping processes are mainly based on the program of the site, but also are reflected on the landscape components such as the evolution of vegetation, and the composition of the massing, which starts in a regular grid and ends in more dynamic layout.
WATER + ASSETS
This way the project acts as a link between shores both in a direct immediate way and in a more indirect and long term approach.
