Dear Middle School Families:

I welcome you to experience Camden Catholic High School to see how we educate with purpose. I know there are many high school options available, and I also know that once you meet our students and faculty, our coaches and our administrators, you will see why people often remark “there is just something special about Camden Catholic.”

Perhaps that “something special” is the 100-plus year tradition of per forming arts, the student-led retreats, or the incredible work being done in our innovation lab. Put together, I promise you that the Irish experience is one that leads to personal growth, academic success and faith formation. The Camden Catholic graduate is not only well-prepared for college, but they are energized to imagine, create and innovate.

I look for ward to meeting your family soon to share our purpose, and how we can fuel yours!

WHAT IS HONOR, FAITH AND LOYALTY?

It is a 137 year tradition founded by the Sisters of Mercy.

It is the Green and White, the Alma Mater, and the Irish plaid.

It is recognizing those who have come before you, and the potential that awaits you.

It is an education with purpose, fueled by faith.

It is prayer ful reflection, and joyous celebration.

It is being a problem-solver, and learning to lead with conviction.

It is loving one’s neighbor, and honoring the diversity in our midst.

It is the Camden Catholic experience.

OUR MISSION

Educating diverse learners since 1887, Camden Catholic develops tomorrow’s innovative leaders steeped in the Catholic tradition of mercy.

DID YOU KNOW...

CCHS is called Camden Catholic because the school was founded in the city of Camden in 1887. However, a fire ravaged most of the structure so the school was rebuilt on a larger campus, where we stand today, in Cherr y Hill.

CCHS is the “Home of the Irish” because along with the Sisters of Mercy, the Brothers of the Holy Cross helped to found Camden Catholic. The mascot was chosen as a nod to the Sisters’ origination in Ireland and the Brothers’ United States headquarters at the University of Notre Dame, which is famously the home of the Fighting Irish.

CCHS students come from public, private and Catholic schools. You do not need to be Catholic to attend Camden Catholic, but ever y student does take 4 years of religion courses, and participates in Christian Ministr y and retreat requirements each year. Despite the “requirement” many CCHS students actually complete more than the required retreats and ser vice hours.

CCHS welcomes students from over 120 communities and 70 middle schools across New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Our student body is among the most diverse in the region, mirroring our nation’s highest level universities. The cultural, geographic, economic, racial and academic diversity at Camden Catholic helps our students to grow their world-view and to learn respect, understanding, cooperation and celebration of all of God’s people.

OUR STUDENTS LIVE DIFFERENTLY

CCHS has unique offerings which you will not find at other local high schools, including:

● J-Term: three-day intensive learning session in which students and faculty explore passions and pursue interests outside of the classroom. J-Term provides students with the opportunity to investigate, reflect, and put their intrinsic leadership skills into practice through public speaking, performance and digital/physical projects. 30+ Course topics include: Prosthetics Design, Forensic Science, Screenprinting, Modern Music Theory, The Broadway Experience, and Social Media Marketing

● Design Thinking: a required year-one course in which freshmen learn the principles of innovative and iterative design. In order to prepare students for four years of problem and project based learning, this course sets a strong foundation of 21st century technical, teamwork, project management, and communication skills.

● STEM Research Mentorships: students accepted to the STEM Research Mentorship program pursue a unique project based on their interests. They use problem based learning skills and design thinking to imagine, create, innovate and share their research

● InSpire Internships: concentrations may include athletics, development, marketing and communications, sports medicine, video production. Interested juniors and seniors can apply to be a part of these hands-on, experiential learning opportunities while earning credit

● College Partnerships: guaranteed admission and scholarship partnerships with Saint Joseph's University, The University of Scranton, St. Francis University, Manhattan College, Mount St. Mary’s University and Holy Family University. Students are also guaranteed scholarships to these higher education institutions up to $140,000.

● AP Capstone: innovative and exclusive program that allows students to develop the skills that matter most for college success, such as research, collaboration, and communication. The program consists of two courses taken in sequence: AP® Seminar and AP Research. In AP Seminar, typically taken in 10th or 11th grade, students choose and evaluate complex topics through multiple lenses; identify credibility and bias in sources; and develop arguments in support of a recommendation. In the subsequent AP Research course, students design, execute, present, and defend a yearlong research-based investigation on a topic of individual interest. They build on skills developed in AP Seminar by learning how to understand research methodology; employ ethical research practices; and collect, analyze, and synthesize information to contribute to academic research

● Experiential Learning: students are exposed to learning outside of the classroom with experiences including: annual Europe trip, Canada Tour, and the NextFab maker-space visit. Students also learn from the rich alumni network through our exclusive AlumniFire Network (LinkedIn for CCHS alumni and students)
