Since the 17th century ukiyo-e (lit. images of the floating world) served traditional imagery of Japan. The focus is on the love lives of the daughters, which are used by TANAKA as allegories for a changing society. When a young man inherits his father’s lucrative business, he cheats the system to set up three of his college friends with jobs. Classic silent film by the great OZU Yasujiro, from a script by his frequent collaborator NODA Kôgo. Where Now Are the Dreams of Youth is a great example of the gradual shift in OZU’s career: it starts off as one of his many student comedies, but ends as a layered melodrama.

Performance Kaiju Project Kaiju Project is a Japanese inspired jazz group formed by the half-Japanese pianist Aseo FRIESACHER. Their initial idea was to bring old folk songs into a new modern context, but in addition to their compositions, this group has found their very own musical direction: a perfect blend of traditional Japanese music and modern creative jazz.
