Once, in a trip that Cortázar made to Lisbon, a friend of his mentioned to him a small guest house where he had been, but he did not remember the exact address. So, he indicated to him how to get there, starting from a small square near to the train station, from where he had to walk up a street, make a left, and then, next to some steps, he would find a small street…

In this book we start a journey in search of Julio Cortázar that will lead us through different episodes of his life: his first years in Europe, Banfield in Argentina; his last job as a university professor; Paris and the literature, his political commitment, his books, his friends, boxing, jazz, his travels and that world of inexplicable fates that made up somehow his life.

Cortázar followed the instructions and found the guest house, which was as his friend had described. It wasn’t until the next day that he realized that he had gone to the wrong square and the street was not the one he had been looking for, therefore the guest house was not the same one.

We will follow the steps of his black hair, his plastic frame glasses and his enigmatic smile, framed in that beard of his of eternal adolescent and perhaps, as in that trip to Lisbon, the wrong path will lead us finally to the place where we wanted to be; with Cortázar one never knows!

In the surrealistic London of the turn of the century, the poet Gabriel Syme is recruited by an anti-anarchist unit in Scotland Yard. From that moment on, he will start his frantic mission where he will work as an undercover detective. The cartoon adaptation of Marta G贸mez-Pintado of the well-known work of Chesterton approaches, with wit and a particular sense of humour, a story where anarchists and policemen find themselves in the midst of a series of disconcerting adventures. The originality of the approach, the freshness of the narrative development and the existential background turns this graphic novel into a renovated version of the classic. Marta G贸mez-Pintado was born in 1967 in Madrid, where she studied Fine Arts. She works as a painter, cartoonist, portraitist, illustrator and professor of drawing and painting. She has illustrated several editions of Alice in Wonderland and has created the graphic novel The man who was Thursday.

Admired by Tolstoi, Gorki and Thomas Mann, among others, Nikolai Leskov, besides being one of the masters of the Russian Literature of the XIX, seems to incarnate the essence of the narrator; to his powerful imagination we can add a very beautiful language, a consequence of his exceptional command of the Russian language. This short novel, which inspired the well-known Shostakovich opera, narrates the story of the young Katerina Lvovna. Jaded by her arranged married with a man twice her age, she has felt a lack of freedom since her childhood; when he meets the young Sergei Filipych, she will be dragged by an all-consuming passion. This Lady Macbeth does not act by an excess of ambition, but by passionate love. Perhaps this is the reason why the reader, in spite of her crimes, cannot avoid understanding her suffering. Ignasi Blanch was born in Tarragona. He holds a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona, he continued his studies in Berlin, where he specialized in printing and engraving in the Künstlerhaus Bethanien centre. He lives and works in Barcelona as an illustrator. He has received numerous awards, such as the Crítica Serra d’Or Award 2006, and the Llibreter de Álbum ilustrado Award 2008. In 2009 he was selected in the Bratislava biennial for Alicia en el país de Maravillas (Alice in Wonderland) and in 2013 por Mujercitas (Little Women).

Inspired by Ulysses journey to return home, this is an invitation to a voyage, a metaphor of life where, step by step, we go through the different stages of our journey towards that Ithaca that awaits us at the end of the voyage. As in life, the important thing is not where we are heading, but what we experience along the journey, in our here and now. As in life itself, the dangers that we will encounter during that journey are the ones that we carry inside of us and, as in life itself, the beauty of what we see and live will be what we have dared to give and share. It is one of the most beautiful poems ever written. It reflects a deep wisdom, the wisdom of a poet who, without the need to abandon his home town, has been able to partake in all voyages. It is an ocean of beauty, in whatever language it is listened to. Federico delicado is an illustrator born in Badajoz in 1956. He graduated in Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid. In the late 70s he began working as an illustrator, making audiovisual materials and continued drawing press. He has participated in exhibitions of painting and sculpture. Nowadays is dedicated to the illustration of books.

A small landowner, Pável Ivánovich Chíchikov, buys dead peasants to register them as live peasants in order to get the lands that were given to those who owned a certain number of servants. For Nikolái Gógol, this plot is a pretext. When he walks his hero throughout Russia to buy dead souls to the landlords of the time, he finds the occasion to depict the human being in his most crude and gruesome version. The impressive graphic work in the book belongs to Alberto Gamón and this edition has a new translation by Marta Rebón. Gamón is an illustrator for newspapers, magazines, graphic design and children’s stories.

«La cata» («The tasting») is one of the most brilliant stories of Roald Dahl. It was published for the first time in the March edition of 1945 of the Ladies Home Journal and was later published, in 1951, in The New Yorker. Iban Barrenetxea (Elgoibar 1973). Absurdity and chance, laws absolutely present in our world, are just one more element of his palette, with which he portays charismatic characters that exude a subtle irony. After a decade dedicated to graphic design he began his career as an illustrator in 2010. Since then he has illustrated a dozen books, has written two and his work has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Bratislava and Euskadi literary awards.

Written in 1886, it is a very modern parable about human ambition. Pajom is a country man to whom no extension of land will ever suffice: the more land he owns, the more he needs. He meets the dwellers of a far region, the Bashkirians. They offer him as much land as he can walk in a day. He will not hesitate and will try to cover as much extension as possible‌ Elena Odriozola (Second National Prize of Illustration 2006) has captured this narrative pulse and takes us with her images to the land were Pajom was born, allowing us to accompany him in his trip around the Russian steppe, marked by the rhythm of his ambition. The cows will witness that eagerness.

Published in London in 1848, it was drawn up by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, commissioned by the Second Congress of the Communist League. On top of being the programme of a political party this is a lucid analysis of the capitalist society of the 19th century, which in many cases continues being up to date. This is not a pamphlet but a classic of western thinking and thanks to the fabulous graphic work of Fernando Vicente, this is the best possible way into this philosophical and political work. Fernando Vicente (Madrid, 1963) started his career at the beginning of the 80s and he was awarded the Golden Laus of Illustration in 1990. He works on a regular basis for El PaĂs. There, he shows every Saturday his most literary work and has shaped his style as an illustrator. He has obtained three Awards of Excellence from the Society for News Design.
