Manuel Moyano Manuel Moyano (Córdoba, 1963) is considered one of best contemporary short-story authors in Spain and his last novel, El imperio de Yegorov (Yegorov’s Empire) was a finalist for the Harralde Prize in 2014. His writings have received several awards, including the Tigre Juan for the best first book (2001) for El amigo de Kafka and the Tristana Award for Fantasy Novels (2006) for La coartada del diablo. Recommended by New Spanish Books for USA, UK, France and Germany.

The Empire of Yegorov Spanish / 2014 / 188 pages / Literary dystopia / Territory: World / Sold: Spain (Anagrama), Netherlands (Meridiaan)

The manuscript is presented as a testimony that has been compiled over several decades by the members of the Resistance, to call on people to rebel against Yegorov, the tyrant who rules the world. The book tells the story of how Yegorov came to have so much power. The novel combines the scientific dystopia with the press investigation and the international thriller in a serie of short pieces being fitted togheter in a puzzle that we can’t completely understand until we read the final piece. It’s like a top-secret report, a real page-turner dossier. The story reminds us of the Orwell’s dystopias mixed with elements of scientific thrillers and an implicit complaint against large crime corporations, some of them camouflaged as pharmaceutical companies. The book is, in short, a call to action against power. A delirious romp through time and space, hugely cinematographic and exploding with imagination and creativity. A weird and wonderful universe and catalogue of characters. Yegorov’s Empire is a smart, fun and fast-paced story full of suspense and some tongue-in-cheek humour as well as gruesome forensic detail. In the media

ABC : «What makes this book stand out, aside from the humour and irony, which are important, is its structure, which becomes essential to understand its special fascination and excellence. Manuel Moyano has constructed a narrative through documents of reality. The result is a collage, which feels like a thriller… Moyano reveals his skill and knowledge of narrative technique and he uses that to great effect… Moyano is a born artist.» El País «This year’s runner-up for the Premio Herralde, with its narrative skill and precise structure, is splendid [...] A biting satire of contemporary attitudes and thought.» La Nueva España: «He is not afraid of being compared to Borges, because he knows –there is not bigger compliment- that most of his own stories can resist those kinds of comparisons.» RNE: «One of the narrative events of 2014… We are witnessing the arrival of one of the most important talents of the XXIst Century.»

Manipulated Children after a Separation: How to Detect and Treat Parental Alienation Spain / 2012 / 192 pages / Family / Psychology Territory: World / Sold: Spain (Invisibles), Latinamerica (Planeta)

Separation and divorce can potentially have dramatic consequences for children. It is increasingly common that the parent with child custody may initiate a process to exclude their ex-partner from their children’s affective and relational field, until the adult has been «extirpated» from their lives. This phenomenon, called Parental Alienation Syndrome, is received in court rooms and therapists’ practices with lack of awareness and professional resources. Yet these are essential to adequately address the problem and protect those who are most vulnerable: the children. The authors offer a basic reference book for psychologists, family lawyers, educators and those affected by this disorder. It contains information and guidance, and seeks to increase awareness about the need for specialized professional action in order to prevent and eradicate this form of abuse.

Parental Alienation Syndrome: 80 Questions and Answers Spain / 2012 / 144 pages / Family / Psychology Territory: World / Sold: Spain (Invisibles) A practical manual for parents and professionals. Grounded in the psychological practice of the two authors, this book is a helpful manual for individuals affected by PAS and professionals who need immediate practical guidance. It also explores legal options, and the most suitable psychological approaches to reach a reliable diagnosis and an efficacious treatment to overcoming PAS. Receptive to a wide range of perspectives regarding the family unit, and transcending existing prejudices and inertias, this book reopens the debate on a syndrome that is thus far relatively unknown.

But what kind of authority? Permissive parenting leads to children who do not accept orders or suggestions. They are incapable of dealing with frustration as part of their lives because we, as parents, have not taught them how to do it. On the other hand, authoritarian parenting has proved to be negative and ineffective. The author pleads for a responsible authority. This book is, above all, a compass full of examples and suggestions to improve the unavoidable task of education.
