The sea is an amazing environment source of loads of inspiration. From the nature itself but also from the human developments made in this space. It is where different shades of colours naturally merge together, from blue, to green and even burgundy. Nautical elements come as a big part in this environment as well. Ropes, sails, or even eyelets are shaping this space with beautiful details. One of the strong inspiration in this collection takes its roots in Scotland, with the New-Heaven fishwives who have a really particular striped attire and led to details presents in the garments. Recreated the old sailor into a modern one, was also the idea behind this collection., The known marinière is recreated with stripes of different coloured silk in a luxurious ways. Blue, Yellow, Ivory, Burgundy and Green are the key colours. Silk, linen, cotton and twill the fabrics.
INTRODUCTION
SEA ESSENCE SPRING/SUMMER 2018 CAMILLE GEORGER
This collection is taking its roots in an amazing environment which is the sea. However this amazing space hasn't stopped being polluted for a few decades. Therefore the United Nations is getting to a new level which is a treaty that will come out in 2018. Its goal is to protect our environment out of the Exclusive Economic Zones. Thanks to traveling I got to visit some of those amazing looking places and more especially amazing beaches with blue water and I do strongly believe that this protection is essential to conserve it the way it is now. All different shades from light blue to green and even purple were visible. However, even though this was the starting point of my idea, I continued looking at the sea and oceans through humans construction and how they use it and affect it. I took some strolls around the port and looked at the different kind of boat that were present. Once in London, I went to visit the National Maritime Museum which is located in Greenwich, there I discovered the wide variety of boats, costumes and maritimes objects that existed. From sails, materials, and medals the idea of the human presence in the sea was clear. Through research I also ended up getting to mariners, fishermen and fisherwomen. I looked at French mariners and their typical striped top. That's not being it, by looking at fishwives I realised that there were some typical one in Newhaven with really typical dresses which had original volumes and just like French mariners, stripes. The stripes of those fishwives are colourful with yellow, blue and red. The idea I want to include in this collection is pretty simple. I want to use all those different details I have found to recreate a kind of new woman of the sea, woman mariner. I want to create my own striped top or 'marinière' by mixing fabrics cutting them, attaching them together. Mixing old and new to create a new modern mariner. I want to use ropes and eyelets in order to bring back the idea of the sails and fishwives dresses. The idea of volume will also be present, not as big outsized garments, but sails being big and taking the wind in, it will be an aspect on my details. In terms of colours, I will stick to blue and green, but also some burgundy due to its good presence in the sea. The white will also be there to keep a fresh light feeling with yellow due to its remarkable presence on fishermen garments. The feeling of the fabrics should be luxurious, with different kind of silks from really light ones such as silk chiffon and thicker such a as silk twill, but also modern thicker fabrics, including waterproof fabric and waxed linen.
