Featured Conference Sessions

Wednesday, March 19, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. STORE 6: Pop-Up or Perish: Why the Pop-up Shop is Revolutionizing Retail Panelists: Jennifer Davis, Director of Client Services, Medallion Retail. Michael Decker, VP, Director of Marketing Strategy, Medallion Retail. Tristan Pollock, Co-Founder and COO, Storefront.____________

The pop-up shop, as it is known today, arose out of the economic conditions brought on by the Great Recession, when it became more common for landlords to use short-term leases to fill otherwise vacant retail space. Over the past five years, however, pop-up has transformed from a quick fix into a bonafide phenomenon. With a focus on recent trends, this session analyzes the effect this shift has had on brand awareness. The powerful advantages of an effectively deployed pop-up shop will be explored, as well as the logistics entailed in setting one up. Whether you’re a brand that’s been established for decades or a start-up still trying to carve out an audience, a well-planned, well-executed pop-up shop can gain you an entirely new following at a significantly reduced price. What’s more, pop-ups don’t just put you on the map, they give you an opportunity that cuts right to the heart of every memorable moment of retail: an entirely unique, interactive, sensory transaction with the very people responsible for your success. The Little Black Book

The Shoppes at The Palazzo features dozens of the world’s premier luxury brands -- nearly 20 of them are “firsts” to Nevada. Names like Diane von Furstenberg, Chloé, Christian Louboutin, Catherine Malandrino, Anya Hindmarch, Michael Kors, Poleci, Tory Burch, Thomas Pink, Jimmy Choo, Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Charriol, Van Cleef & Arpels, Piaget, Canturi Jewels and Links of London are just a few stand-outs in what is the country’s most impressive collection of luxury brands under one roof. Town Square Walking into Town Square, located at the corner of Sunset Road and Las Vegas Boulevard, you’ll feel as if you’ve stepped into a quaint Italian village. Roam the shops, there are over 150, including Bed Bath and Beyond, Steve Madden, Victoria’s Secret, the luxury furniture store Robb & Stuckey as well as the world-famous European store H&M. Not in the mood to peruse the shops? No worries, there’s also an 18-screen movie theater, a Whole Foods Market, a 24 Hour Fitness gym, a sprawling children’s park and quite a few restaurants. Via Bellagio Via Bellagio, the shops of the Bellagio Las Vegas, offers a very wide berth of luxury shopping options with its deep roster of worldrenowned designer shops and boutiques. There is Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Hermes, Tiffany & Co, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Dior, Prada, and Fendi. These hotspot shops offer enough heat to melt bankcards and make even the most experienced shoppers swoon. And don’t forget about the Via Fiore shops! The Essentials shop is where all Bellagio-themed clothing, accessories and gifts are available. Regali offers leather goods, electronic items, gadgetry, and unique gifts for men. Glassware, paintings, books and tapes by artisan Dale Chihuly are found at Chihuly at Bellagio, and the Giardini Garden Store has extraordinary gifts and decorative items to complement garden areas. The exclusive lobby shops, such as Tesorini, provide an impressive gallery of goodies too. The fine jewelry presented by Tesorini includes gems from Hearts on Fire, Patek Phillippe, and Stefan Hafner.

A.R.E. Events

A.R.E. Design Awards A.R.E. produces the industry’s leading international retail design competition and awards program. Retailers, designers and suppliers can enter full projects or specific project elements in 25 different categories. Winning projects were announced at the beginning of February and top achievements will be recognized at the A.R.E. Design Awards presentation held the first day of GlobalShop in Las Vegas. Look for 2015 details this fall. www.aredesignawards.com Shoptalks A.R.E.’s popular regional Shoptalk series provides regional networking and educational opportunities to retailers and designers in key cities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Dallas, New York, Seattle, San Francisco, Cincinnati, Chicago, Toronto and Minneapolis are just a few of the cities included on the circuit in the past. Visit A.R.E.’s website after March 15 for a 2014 schedule. If you are interested in hosting one in your area, contact Karen Doodeman at 954-241-4833 today. Retail Design Collective, New York City Whether you do business in New York yearround or venture to the city for occasional inspiration, there’s no question that the first week of December is the best time for retail store planners, visual merchandisers, and designers to converge in the Big Apple. We call this event a Collective because it brings together everything special about the sights and sounds of New York and retail design. Visit the site after July 1st for details on the 2014 show. www.retaildesigncollective.com PAVE Gala, New York City December 3, 2014 The PAVE Gala benefits PAVE’s educational programs and showcases select student work.
