WELCOME from the Chairman of the Board On behalf of the Camp Fire First Texas board of directors, I’d like to welcome you to the 28th Annual An Artists’ Christmas art auction and gala. We are very appreciative of the volunteer leadership for An Artists’ Christmas. It is their hard work, along with the support of our committee members and volunteers, that has made this evening possible.

Jerri and Chuck Akers 2012 Chairs We are honored and delighted to chair Camp Fire First Texas’ 28th Annual An Artists’ Christmas. We truly believe in the quality programs offered by Camp Fire to more than 20,000 youth and families in the North Texas area. This event is crucial to the ongoing success of those programs which significantly enrich the

lives of children and youth in our community. Our special thanks go to event sponsors, donors and the wonderful artists who make this evening so special. And to our committee members and volunteers, we salute you for the countless hours and tireless work

that you’ve offered in support of such a worthy cause. So to the people who have worked endlessly to make this year’s event a success, we say thank you. We look forward to sharing the evening’s fun, fellowship and fabulous entertainment with you. Jerri and Chuck Akers

Pam and Bill Campbell 2012 Art Chairs Thank you for the joy and privilege of serving as tonight’s Art Chairs. For 28 years, Fort Worth artists have made generous donations of their time and talents to An Artists’ Christmas. We can’t think of any other event where you can purchase wonderful works of art for your personal collection while also supporting programs to improve the lives of children and youth in our community.

It means so much to us and to the larger art community that a contribution from tonight’s proceeds benefits the Emergency Artists Support League, which provides grants to area artists in need of emergency medical funds. It’s Camp Fire’s way of giving back to the art community that has so generously supported An Artists’ Christmas for 28 years. As you bid on art tonight, remember that

every dollar matters! Have a great night and show your support by purchasing the wonderful artworks on display. Pam and Bill Campbell

Dan Dunn’s PAINTJAM Dan Dunn has a background in painting, design and caricature spanning 30 years. He has won numerous national awards and commissioned to draw caricatures for former President George H. W. Bush, Sting, Jimmy Buffett and Joe Theisman. Dan also has a painting commemorating the Columbia Shuttle Mission on display at N.A.S.A. After running his own successful caricature talent agency, Caricatures Ink., for many years, Dan Dunn discovered his amazing PAINTJAM abilities after being inspired by work of the late Denny Dent. Dan rented a storage warehouse, draped it in plastic and began to throw some paint. It was his stunning performance at an event in Atlantic City that first brought international attention to the classically-trained painter. Overwhelmed by the crowd’s reaction to the unique show, Dan’s daughter posted a recording of the sensational footage on YouTube. It wasn’t long before PAINTJAM went viral and had received millions

of hits and garnered him widespread acclaim. Since starting on this amazing journey, Dan has appeared on numerous television shows worldwide and has been a featured performer on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Jimmy Fallon, the Super Bowl pre-game show and “The CBS Early Show.” He has also showcased his talent alongside Jay Leno, Craig Ferguson, Dennis Miller, Lionel Richie, Shaquille O’Neal, Bill Cosby, Elvis Costello and Queen Latifah. He has performed for various world leaders in over 25 countries and has raised over a million dollars for charities from the sale of his paintings. His work will be auctioned after his performance this evening.

JURORS

Andrea Karnes, Curator of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth In her position as curator at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Andrea Karnes has challenged audiences with contemporary exhibitions such as Hubbard/Birchler: No Room to Answer, 2009. No Room to Answer featured the collaborative photographic and video works of the Swiss/American artistic team, Teresa Hubbard and Alexander Birchler. In 2007, she presented Pretty Baby, a group exhibition that included the works of thirteen artists who addressed the subject of childhood, touching on everything from innocent reverie to the dark side. In 2005, she organized Pierre Huyghe: One Million + Kingdoms, and in 2004, Julie Bozzi: Landscapes 1975-2003. Currently Karnes is organizing a survey of contemporary Mexican art titled Mexico: Inside/Out. An

exhibition that is three years in the making. Inside/Out will be the first US survey of art in Mexico in a decade, and the first of its kind in North Texas. The exhibition examines the imperfect, corrupt political systems that are specific to Mexico, while at the same time they are global. Curator of the Modern’s FOCUS series, which features emerging artists, Karnes has presented the works of Vera Lutter, Cornelia Parker, Adam Fuss, Hiroshi Sugito, Nigel Cooke, Chinatsu Ban, Ralf Ziervogel, Barnaby Furnas, Banks Violette, Joshua Mosley, Kehinde Wiley, Ranjani Shettar, Jeff Elrod, Rosson Crow, Gardar Eide Einarsson, Gabriel Acevedo Velarde, Benjamin Jones, Erik Parker, Robert Lazzarini, Teresita Fernández, KAWS, Katie Paterson and Ged Quinn.

Karnes was a contributing author for Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth: 110, the museum’s permanent collection catalogue published in 2002. Her other publications include, Hubbard/ Birchler: No Room to Answer, Pretty Baby, Pierre Huyghe: Stranger than Fiction, and Julie Bozzi: Hidden in Plain Sight. Karnes completed a bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art history from the University of North Texas in 1988 and a master’s degree in Art History at Texas Christian University in May 2000. Her thesis, Sally Mann: Beyond the Black and White, offers an in-depth look at the artist’s monograph Immediate Family, published in the early 1990s. Specifically addressing the critical writing about Immediate Family, Karnes examines why it was often couched within the framework of the cultural wars of the late 1980s.

Mark Thistlethwaite, Kay and Velma Kimbell Chair of Art History, Texas Christian University Professor Mark Thistlethwaite holds the Kay and Velma Kimbell Chair of Art History. Need a tropical getaway? The exclusive Hacienda Encantada in beautiful Cabo San Lucas, Mexico is ready to help you relax. You’ll enjoy 8 days and 7 nights in a contemporary Spanish style condo, that overlooks the Sea of Cortez. This 800 square foot, one bedroom, two bath condo can accommodate up to six guests.

A Mississippi native and Texas transplant, Jason Eady has spent the last seven years in a musical metamorphosis that has led him through lonesome delta blues, inspirational church house harmonies, poetically spun tales of Americana and into the naked and honest regions of good ole’ country music. His three previous record releases have laid an impressive foundation starting with his 2005 debut From Underneath The Old, produced by Walt Wilkins and Tim Lorsch. Followed by his 2007 self-produced sophomore release, Wild Eyed Serenade which reached #14 on the Americana Music Chart. His When The Money’s All Gone, is the last anyone has heard from Eady until now. Eady’s latest release, Am Country Heaven features Austin’s all-star team of country music players called Heybale, legendary pedal steel player Lloyd Maines, and the incomparable Patty Loveless. Combined, they have recorded and toured with artists such as Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Junior Brown, Dale Watson, Connie Smith, and Johnny Bush. Eady’s rich baritone timber and soul-inspired blues combine to create a pure honky-tonk affair in the tradition of all the great troubadours that came before him.

The property features 4 casual and fine dining options, along all with stunning panoramic views of the sea. There is an on-site holistic spa, swimming pools with a swim up bar, open air jacuzzis, 24-hour room service, and an activity center to help you plan your golf, water sports, or other excursions.
