Darlene Mann, Market Trust Director at Bank of America, pictured above, has been the manager of the Crystelle Waggoner Charitable Trust since its inception. Born to a ranching family, Crystelle Waggoner raised cattle and thoroughbred horses. A patron of the arts and supporter of medical charities during her lifetime, she established a fifty year trust to benefit charitable organizations in the arts and social services. Camp Fire First Texas greatly appreciates the trust’s continuing support of An Artists’ Christmas, an event that has raised more than $3 million for youth in our community since its inception.

By attending tonight’s event, you are not only celebrating arts and artists of North Texas, but more importantly, you are benefitting thousands of children, youth and families throughout the region.

Dan Dunn’s PAINTJAM Dan Dunn has a background in painting, design and caricature spanning 30 years. He has won numerous national awards and commissioned to draw caricatures for former President George H. W. Bush, Sting, Jimmy Buffett and Joe Theisman. Dan also has a painting commemorating the Columbia Shuttle Mission on display at N.A.S.A. After running his own successful caricature talent agency, Caricatures Ink., for many years, Dan Dunn discovered his amazing PAINTJAM abilities after being inspired by work of the late Denny Dent. Dan rented a storage warehouse, draped it in plastic and began to throw some paint. It was his stunning performance at an event in Atlantic City that first brought international attention to the classically-trained painter. Overwhelmed by the crowd’s reaction to the unique show, Dan’s daughter posted a recording of the sensational footage on YouTube. It wasn’t long before PAINTJAM went viral and had received millions

Since starting on this amazing journey, Dan has appeared on numerous television shows worldwide and has been a featured performer on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Jimmy Fallon, the Super Bowl pre-game show and “The CBS Early Show.” He has also showcased his talent alongside Jay Leno, Craig Ferguson, Dennis Miller, Lionel Richie, Shaquille O’Neal, Bill Cosby, Elvis Costello and Queen Latifah. He has performed for various world leaders in over 25 countries and has raised over a million dollars for charities from the sale of his paintings. His work will be auctioned after his performance this evening.

Andrea Karnes, Curator of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth In her position as curator at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Andrea Karnes has challenged audiences with contemporary exhibitions such as Hubbard/Birchler: No Room to Answer, 2009. No Room to Answer featured the collaborative photographic and video works of the Swiss/American artistic team, Teresa Hubbard and Alexander Birchler. In 2007, she presented Pretty Baby, a group exhibition that included the works of thirteen artists who addressed the subject of childhood, touching on everything from innocent reverie to the dark side. In 2005, she organized Pierre Huyghe: One Million + Kingdoms, and in 2004, Julie Bozzi: Landscapes 1975-2003. Currently Karnes is organizing a survey of contemporary Mexican art titled Mexico: Inside/Out. An
exhibition that is three years in the making. Inside/Out will be the first US survey of art in Mexico in a decade, and the first of its kind in North Texas. The exhibition examines the imperfect, corrupt political systems that are specific to Mexico, while at the same time they are global. Curator of the Modern’s FOCUS series, which features emerging artists, Karnes has presented the works of Vera Lutter, Cornelia Parker, Adam Fuss, Hiroshi Sugito, Nigel Cooke, Chinatsu Ban, Ralf Ziervogel, Barnaby Furnas, Banks Violette, Joshua Mosley, Kehinde Wiley, Ranjani Shettar, Jeff Elrod, Rosson Crow, Gardar Eide Einarsson, Gabriel Acevedo Velarde, Benjamin Jones, Erik Parker, Robert Lazzarini, Teresita Fernández, KAWS, Katie Paterson and Ged Quinn.
Karnes was a contributing author for Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth: 110, the museum’s permanent collection catalogue published in 2002. Her other publications include, Hubbard/ Birchler: No Room to Answer, Pretty Baby, Pierre Huyghe: Stranger than Fiction, and Julie Bozzi: Hidden in Plain Sight. Karnes completed a bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art history from the University of North Texas in 1988 and a master’s degree in Art History at Texas Christian University in May 2000. Her thesis, Sally Mann: Beyond the Black and White, offers an in-depth look at the artist’s monograph Immediate Family, published in the early 1990s. Specifically addressing the critical writing about Immediate Family, Karnes examines why it was often couched within the framework of the cultural wars of the late 1980s.
Mark Thistlethwaite, Kay and Velma Kimbell Chair of Art History, Texas Christian University Professor Mark Thistlethwaite holds the Kay and Velma Kimbell Chair of Art History. Having earned degrees in art history from the University of California at Santa Barbara (B.A. and M.A.) and University of Pennsylvania (Ph.D), he specializes in the art of the United States. As a teacher, he has received TCU’s Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Teaching and the Honors Program’s “Professor of the Year” award. As a scholar, he has published
books and articles on nineteenthcentury and twentieth-century art, particularly on the subject of history painting. Dr. Thistlethwaite has chaired the City of Fort Worth’s Art Commission and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and on the Board of Trustees of the African American Museum in Dallas, and he is a member of the Visiting Committee of the Amon Carter Museum of American Art.
Andrew Walker, Director of the Amon Carter Museum of American Art Dr. Andrew J. Walker became the Amon Carter Museum of American Art’s fifth director in April 2011, the museum’s 50th Anniversary. Dr. Walker will provide strategic vision and leadership as the museum enters its next 50 years. Dr. Walker brings to the museum more than 20 years of experience. Most recently, he was the assistant director for curatorial affairs and curator of American art at the Saint Louis Art Museum, a position he held for six years. He was responsible for collection development; acquisition, exhibitions and program management; and fundraising and donor development. During his tenure, he oversaw eight curatorial departments and organized five special exhibitions, including major examinations of American artists George Caleb Bingham and Joe Jones.
In his 21-year museum career, Dr. Walker has also held curatorial positions at the Missouri History Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago. In the early 1990s, he served as a research consultant for the Amon Carter, assisting with exhibition research on Thomas Eakins and William M. Harnett. Other positions include guest curator at Denison University Art Gallery in Granville, Ohio, and research intern at The Brooklyn Museum of Art. Dr. Walker graduated summa cum laude from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, receiving a BA degree in the history of art. He received his doctorate in the history of art from the University of Pennsylvania, supported by the Henry Luce Foundation/ American Council of Learned Societies Dissertation Fellowship for the Study of American Art and

the Jacob Javits Fellowship with the United States Department of Education. His teaching experience includes instructor positions at the University of Chicago’s Department of Art History and the University of Pennsylvania’s Department of the History of Art. Dr. Walker’s community service consists of serving on numerous boards, including the Samuel Cupples House at Saint Louis University and the community advisory board with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He is also on the board of directors of the World Chess Museum and Hall of Fame. He has delivered many articles for publication in scholarly journals across the country and lectured widely on American art. Dr. Walker lives in Fort Worth with his wife Paula and son Jacob.
