What We Do. Why It Matters Camp Fire changes young lives for the better in our community. Inside and out. This summer, more than 1,400 boys and girls will attend a Camp Fire First Texas camp. The programs at each of these summer camps, both day and overnight, are research based and developed using a comprehensive framework called Thrive{ology} that creates powerful youth experiences benefiting young people both now and in the long-term. If you were to observe a week at an overnight or day camp, you might see a camper hiking with friends, shooting arrows at an archery range, cooling off with a swim, meeting a new friend or exploring an animal’s habitat. What is being taught in those moments might not be so obvious. Youth are developing skills like environmental stewardship, positive identity, goal setting and management, a sense of belonging, and creative thinking. Each of these seemingly small experiences sets the stage for our youth to achieve outcomes that last a lifetime. Youth who participate in Camp Fire camps develop a lifelong love of nature through experiential learning in and about nature. As youth grow these skills, they are on their way to becoming adults who are vibrant and engaged in our communities.
