Conflict Resolution
Conflict resolution is associated with both competence and connection. Conflict resolution is a life skill and a social skill that indicates a person’s ability to have positive relationships with others. “At Camp Fire, we regularly address how young people need to learn ‘21st Century Skills’ in order to be ready for the future workforce. The list of these skills are traits like critical thinking, collaboration, communication, problem solving and selfmanagement. So many of those traits are positively impacted by having conflict resolution skills in a young person’s character,” said Angela Dikes, vice president of professional growth at Camp Fire.

Recognize the Value of Nature
Youth reported in pre/post assessments that they have a greater appreciation for nature and the environment after being involved in a Camp Fire program. This year, they exceeded the national average for this indicator.
Early Childhood Social Emotional Gains
Camp Fire supported early learning programs are demonstrating an increase of social-emotional protective factors in infant, toddler, and pre-k classrooms across the community. “When we are able to teach early childhood teachers how to use ordinary opportunities throughout the day - such as drop-off, meal time, or small group activities - as ‘teachable’ moments we see children’s outcomes improve. Research shows that a child who has the social/ emotional capacity to self-regulate, name their emotions and learn how to manage their feelings early, carry these skills to their next developmental stage and are better equipped to learn and ultimately be stronger citizens,” Dikes explained.
