The Campus Note will introduce you to our students and college town opportunities. I hope you’re inspired to go out and find your own favorite spots in Durant. Sometimes it’s hard to remember to enjoy life when the middle of the semester is upon us and the weather can’t make up its mind. Don’t get lost in it. Devour, Feel,

Describe your “style” freshman year. I am not sure what the style would be called. I would wear chinos with vans and a button down shirt on the norm. I only wore socks in the winter.
Reid is a senior Graphic Design major from Mesquite, TX. He graduated from First Baptist Academy. He has been involved in Student Government Association, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Visual Art and Ceramics Organization, and Housing and Residence Life where he is the Senior Residential Assistant. Upon graduation, he will attend the University of Texas at Austin for graduate studies in advertising with a creative focus.
Tell me about the best date you have ever been on. (If it is not with Lulu skip this question. No, seriously, skip this question.) I don’t think there is one date I can pinpoint as being the best. I always enjoy attending concerts or sporting events with Lu. I just enjoy creating new memories and spending quality time together. What moment in your life would you relive? When I was a senior in high school, I took a school trip to Scotland. My two friends and I hiked to the top of a peak that overlooked the city of Edinburgh. It was an awe-inspiring moment between us, and I would love to relive it. What have you enjoyed most about being a Residential Assistant? I have enjoyed getting to know and meet new people. I have also enjoyed living on campus and being involved all four years of my undergrad. What inspires you as an artist? When it comes to design work, I’ll quote Nolan Bushnell, “The ultimate inspiration is the deadline.”

Fairytales are Fake We’re all looking for a “fairytale ending,” but the origins of these fairytales aren’t all sunshine and roses like the well-‐known Disney interpretations. WARNING! Your childhood could be ruined.

Dates for Days
When you think of going on a date, you probably think about the classic “dinner and movie” combo. But dinner and a movie can get super old, super fast… especially when they charge you 20 bucks for a small, butter-less popcorn. We came up with a list of date ideas to mix things up, and with Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s the perfect opportunity to try one out!
Sweet Treat – a late night sugar run to Dandy’s is the perfect date for all you night owls out there. Super sweet, super cheap, and super fun. Also, it’s a known fact that donuts taste better after midnight… Coffee before class- a great date idea for busy bees (and birds). If your days and nights are packed with no time to spare, consider meeting downtown in the early hours for some quality coffee and a muffin to start your days off right. Netflix movie marathon- going to the movies is expensive, but pretty much everyone has Netflix or Hulu. Make a list of movies you’ve been dying to see, make some popcorn and get comfortable!
10
Local concerts- concerts can be expensive, but often local or on-campus bands put on live shows with free or relatively cheap admission. Grab your dancing shoes and head out for a night of live music! Go to a sporting event- use your student ID and attend any of Southeastern’s home sporting events, buy some snacks and enjoy some of the best rivalries, while enjoying some of the best company. Stargazing- all you need for this easy date is some blankets and snacks and somewhere away from the city lights to be able to enjoy the stars. Don’t forget to put your phone away! Study date- this date would be a good idea when school work has you both swamped, but you’re dying to spend time together. You don’t have to be miserable alone in the library- Be miserable together! Make sure to bring junk food, your favorite music, and your favorite person and get to studying!

The Small Business Revolution Main Street team will be announcing their five finalists for this Hulu original’s fourth season in mid-February. The winner will be chosen through a weeklong public vote and announced at the end of February. The winner will receive a $500,00 revitalization for the community’s small businesses and will be featured in season four of Small Business Revolution Main Street. If Durant makes the top five, we will post the voting link on Twitter. Keep your eyes peeled and get ready to vote. Photo by Ieysha Cheney

The downtown is decked with murals, signs, and window displays proudly supporting Durant in the Small Business Revolution. Several stores have art pieces that represent their downtown history. The Small Business Revolution has united the community and has encouraged citizens to proudly and creatively display their individuality as small businesses in downtown Durant. Now even the dumpsters are decorated with magnolias. That’s creative! For more information regarding the #MyDurant movement, visit the Durant Main Street Facebook page. While you’re there, be sure to like and share Spencer’s video.
