Editor’s Note Ladies and gentlemen (drumroll, please)...….we present you the all new Campus Plus magazine! Bigger and better of course, and we have you, our dear readers, to thank for. As always, your views are very important to us and so, this new revamped issue is specially dedicated to all of you. Besides going on a full makeover, we also have a line-up of new sections and features that's right up your alley. Career, Travel, Food, Game, Arts & Culture, Dance and more. So, for our cover this month, we've decided to explore the burgeoning dance scene in Malaysia. More specifically, the local hip-hop dance scene. If anything, the amount of dance competitions in our country bears testament to the fact that there is plenty of talent in our local dance scene and that's something that will just keep growing. Read how the hip-hop dance culture came about and pick up a dance move or two from our cover story (page 34 – 39). We also have dance extraordinaire, Fellest Yan, on our hot seat for our Career Chat this month (page 72), where he gives us the lowdown about being a dancer in Malaysia, and what you'd need to do to be a successful one.

Along with dance, our local music scene is also one that is bursting with new flavours every month. For July, we sat down with Time & Tide, who shared stories of its trials and tribulations in a highly competitive music industry (page 48). Rounding up our interviews with local personalities, we also have World No. 6 female squash player, Low Wee Wern, who won us over with her friendly, easygoing and relaxed attitude. But behind that relaxed attitude is a squash warrior who became the second Malaysian female player to reach the top 10 rung of the world squash table. It doesn't come easy. Read all about it on page 68. I have to say, it's with mixed feelings that I write this month's Editor's Note. On one hand, I am terribly excited about and proud of our new revamped magazine. On the other hand, it is also my last Editor's Note for Campus Plus. It is with a heavy heart that I bid my goodbye, but of course, new adventures are always inevitable. Here's to new beginnings. And, as always, it's been a pleasure. Cheers (one last time),

Of the 38, two were 21-year-old girls. Ngiam Loke Ming said she shaved her head bald not just to show her support for children with cancer, but also to encourage more donations towards the cause.

Alvina Won wanted to highlight that the children needed more than monetary support. The Go Bald campaign was in support of the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society which raises funds to help rural families affected by childhood cancer. The society helps patients seek treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital, the only medical facility in the state that is equipped to treat cancer patients.

The team came up with the idea because each member had problems locating their own car keys or house keys when rushing for time. “We wanted to create a device where we could locate our keys simply by emitting a signal from our phone,” Lum explained on behalf of the team. As first runner-up in the national competition, the team may receive further assistance from MSC Malaysia to commercialise their idea and validate their business model.

Students who opt for this pathway can simultaneously earn the ACCA Qualification as well as KDU UC’s Bachelor of Accounting degree. The MoU was signed at a special ceremony where ACCA also presented KDU UC with the Platinum seal of approval in the ACCA Approved Learning Partners (ALP)–Student Tuition scheme, the highest and most prestigious level of approval for universities and colleges globally under ACCA’s ALP programme.

hirty-nine Public Relations students from the Taylor’s School of Communication recently went the extra mile to promote the need for personal safety. UCSI Students Glam Up

S

tudents from UCSI University’s De Institute of Art & Design (DIAND) impressed many in the local world of fashion with their elegant evening concoctions. They were invited by My Wedding – a well-known Malaysian wedding magazine – to participate in its ninth annual wedding exhibition at MidValley Megamall. The event was an ideal avenue for the students to showcase their creativity to an audience which

included designers, makeup artists and respected names in the world of fashion. The DIAND students offered intricate detailing on 20 elegant evening dresses, showed off by leggy models on the runway, which drew a loud round of applause. Chief editor of My Wedding magazine, Lim Hooi Hia, heaped praise on the designs by UCSI students: “Overall, I can see much potential in the students. Some of the designs were very eye-catching and I hope to see more in the future.”

Reviving Life Through ‘Reborn’ Campaign

‘R

eborn, Revive & Recreate!’ a slogan for the ‘Reborn’ campaign held at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) by its final-year Public Relations students, is about reviving life through organ donation. “This is the first organ donation campaign organised by UTAR students. Given the low number of organ donation pledges, we believe creating awareness should come first,” said campaign director Lim Jean Nie. The campaign also aims to recreate the spirit of volunteerism,

particularly among UTAR students and staff. The main attraction, the ‘Reborn’ exhibition, has drawn more than 800 visitors who came to admire the spectacular human body tunnel with handmade gigantic organs displayed beneath it. “The students had shown remarkable creativity in executing the campaign on campus,” said Dr Hasby Haron, clinical manager of Kuala Lumpur National Transplant Resource Centre.

CURTIN Sarawak marketing students learn to run an NPO

0 marketing students of the School of Business at Curtin University, Sarawak, recently had the opportunity to learn about

operating a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) from Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) honorary secretary Tan Lay Yen.

In his talk, Tan laid outlined the operational aspects of a NPO, which could be challenging due to limited funding and shortage

of volunteers. This was followed by an interactive session which introduced the students to the seven principles of project implementation applied by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), namely humanity, impartiality, neutrality, human independence, unity, universality, and voluntary service. Goh Pen Yeng, a third year marketing student, commented that he gained valuable knowledge from the talk as he was able to learn how an NPO operates differently from other organisations.

Nick Vujivic At Sunway

M

otivational and evangelical speaker, Nick Vujivic, recently gave his first public talk in the country at the Sunway University campus in Sunway City, Petaling Jaya. Vujivic who was born without limbs due to a genetic disorder, spoke on the need to value one’s own self and on the negative effects of bullying.

“How you see yourself is also how people see you. If you say no one wants to be your friend, then no one will. Stop complaining,” he said. Nick, who nearly committed suicide at the age of 10 because of bullying, spoke about the need to understand their plight. “I want you to know I don’t want to be a person who gives others a reason to kill themselves. I want to be a reason for someone to stay alive and live life to the fullest.”

At the press conference after the talk, Vujivic stressed on the importance of self value. “Sometimes we stereotype each other. Sometime we stereotype ourselves. We look at our past and think that our past will determine our future. But as you put faith in action, you really can see the things you can’t see.”

Up In The Air With Thirty Seconds To Mars

Az’ S New Album

G

uitarist-composer-educator Az Samad has ventured into the electric space with his latest electric guitar album ‘in the deep night/ electric poetry’. The album is Az Samad’s eighth solo release and listeners can expect a mix of jazz, new age and free improvisation. “The electric guitar is a whole new experience for me and I’m enjoying it because it’s expressive in very different ways from the acoustic guitar. It’s painting with sound textures more than actually painting with the acoustic sound,” explains Az.

Divided into two parts, the first half of the new album is entitled ‘in the deep night’ and is music meant for relaxation. The second half is ‘electric poetry’ - an exploration of multi-tracked electric guitar and live looping. The album is priced at RM40 and is available at Candor Music (Solaris Dutamas, KL), Sixstrings (Aman Suria, PJ), Merdekarya (Petaling Garden, PJ), Toccata Studio (SS2, PJ) and from Az Samad himself at his live performances. Digital downloads can be bought online at azsamad. bandcamp.com/album/in-the-deep-nightelectric-poetry.

Love Lust Faith + Dreams, released on May 20, was written and recorded around the world from Europe, to India, to the band’s studio in California. Frontman Jared Leto said: “This is more than an evolution, it’s a new beginning. Creatively, we’ve gone to an entirely new place, which is exciting, unexpected and incredibly inspiring.” The first single off the album, Up In The Air, was launched into space literally, aboard the SpaceX cargo mission to the space station, in a partnership with NASA.

BeautyFeature

Bask in the sun and say hello to that warm sun-kissed glow! Of course, it’s not easy achieving that bronze look, but hey, a perfect tan is not as elusive as one might think.

The Tan Commandments By Jocelyn Loke

Thou shall exfoliate

A common mistake is not giving yourself a proper scrub before the tanning pilgrimage. It’s important to exfoliate so that your body is rid of dead skin cells and to prevent patchiness when you tan. Focus on trouble spots like elbows, knees and ankles.

Thou shall use sunscreen

Sunscreen doesn’t hinder the tanning process, it helps to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. So in essence, this is a step that you shouldn’t skip! Apply sunscreen of SPF 15-20, such as Nivea’s Sun Invisible Protection, evenly all over your body half an hour before you start tanning. If you must use suntan oil, apply it first before putting on sunscreen. Maui Babe Browning Lotion comes highly recommended.

Thou shall (un)dress for success

No one likes an uneven tan or worst, tan lines. So make sure your swimwear doesn’t have funky cutouts, unless you want the imprint to be displayed on your body for the next month or so. String bikinis are best for tanning, as you’re able to

undo the straps and get it out of the way when you tan.

Thou shall not tan between 12pm - 3pm

The afternoon sun is not only the hottest, but it’s also the most harmful. You should never sunbath at this time as the added intensity of the sun does not improve the look of your tan. What it does is increase your chances of getting sunburnt and consequently, experiencing skin damage. The adage, ‘Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noon day sun’, still works!

Thou shall protect your hair

Protect your locks from being sunravaged with hair products that keep your tresses glossy and gorgeous in the heat. Try the Sunsilk Nourishing Soft & Smooth Oil Spray, which conditions hair to make it soft, smooth and shiny and provides intensive nourishment for hair.

Thou shall flip every 15 minutes

Remind yourself by setting the alarm on your phone, so that you’ll remember to flip sides every 15 minutes. This helps not only to even

your tan, but also to make sure that your exposed skin get some rest in between. Keep in mind to also expose the places where the sun normally don’t shine, like underarms and inner thighs.

Thou shall keep yourself hydrated

Keep your body hydrated by drinking loads of water. Bring along a face mist such as The Body Shop Vitamin E Face Mist to keep your skin hydrated at all times. A splash in the sea or pool every now and then helps to counter the warm heat too. It won’t undo your tanning efforts, but just remember to re-apply your sunscreen again after that.

Thou shall moisturise

Good after-sun care is a must. Once you’re done with worshipping the sun, take a shower to wash off all excess lotion and put some after-sun lotion on your sunexposed skin, which helps soothe and moisturise sun-weary skin. We like Fruit of the Earth Aloe Gel and Nivea Moisturising After-Sun Lotion.

Thou shall re-think your make-up

to accentuate your tan. A tan also means you should re-think your colour choices before you slap on the war paint. Try Benefit’s Sun Beam and Arty Professional’s Bronzing Powder, as well as eyeshadow colours such as The Body Shop’s Baked Eye Colour in Copper and Moonstone.

Thou shall not overdo it

Always remember that exposure to the sun for a long period of time is very damaging, so keep your tanning activities to a minimum or spread out short tanning sessions over a longer period of time. The key is to know when to get out of the sun. If you feel faint-ish or a headache building up, get out of the sun. Or you can try my modus operandi, which is to ‘sear’ yourself under the sun for 15-20 minutes on each side and then move to a spot under the shade to ‘slow roast’, allowing the tan to develop gradually. You may laugh of course, but my tan is always perfect. So now that you know the tan commandments, go forth and get

your daily glow!

It’s time to bring out the bronzer

The nitty gritty behind pampering your body and skin is unveiled by the team at Crabtree & Evelyn Taking long baths is an amazing way to wind down after a long day. Try using Crabtree & Evelyn’s La Source spa treatment products as it combines both the benefits of the sea and the spa for you to enjoy in your own private space. Specifically designed to restore,

The difference between a soap bar and shower gel/ cream?

When it comes to choosing a cleansing option for your daily skincare routine, you should base your decision on your personal preference, requirements and skin condition. The purpose of both the soap bar and the shower gel is essentially the same -- to cleanse the skin. Shower gels generally encompass all the benefits of traditional soap, but in a far more indulgent packaging. It offers a rich lather, pH balance, and nourishment from extracts and a refreshing fragrance.

What’s the difference between body butter and body soufflé?

It is the same thing. Body soufflés or butters are best used as an intensive moisturising or night cream. Crabtree & Evelyn’s Body Soufflés absorbs quickly to deposit lightweight moisture -- perfect for those with dry skin as well as normal to oily skin.

Best way to remedy this is to treat your hands to little pampering moments throughout the day! Crabtree & Evelyn’s Hand Therapy creams are award-winning, shea butter-rich and super moisturising. Shea Butter rich formula contains Ceramides 3 and 6 II, which improve skin’s barrier function to reduce moisture loss. To help hold moisture close to the skin surface, thus increasing hydration and softness, it also includes a superior hydrator, Hyaluronic Acid. These Hand Therapies come in a travel-friendly size so you can pamper on the go.

For sensitive skin, choose products which are gentle on the skin. Always test on a small spot on your skin before committing to a full range purchase. Pour into warm, running water for a refreshing foam bath, or massage into a fresh-scented lather for a deep cleansing and skinconditioning shower.

Inspired by the extraordinarily beautiful Evelyn Rose, bred for Crabtree & Evelyn, our captivating signature fragrance features a heart of uniquely scented Evelyn Rose petals and peach nectar.

I’m beginning to see some fine lines and dry skin on my hand. What’s the best way to remedy this?

30

I have sensitive skin. What type of shower gel should I use?

Is there any way to combat brittle nails and cuticle problems?

The secret to glossy, healthylooking nails is Crabtree & Evelyn’s Nail & Cuticle Therapy. It helps to soften cuticles, strengthen nails, and reduce brittleness and breakage. Use 2-3 times per week, or as often as needed to protect nails and cuticles.

Cover Story

H by Jeyna Lim

ipopping istory

If you were to dissect hip-hop, you would find that it is influenced by a variety of African musical styles, gospel, folk, blues, R&B and even jazz!

But how did this hip-hop movement start? The person who first laid the foundation of this movement was just a 12-year old Jamaican named Clive Campbell who moved from his country with his family to the West Bronx, New York, in 1967. He brought all he knew about mobile discos, DJs, talk-overs and dub records from his birthplace. Then Campbell added on a powerful sound system to his possession, and that sparked the movement! The hip-hop movement did not just bring a whole new music genre to our ears, but it created a culture. Clive Campbell a.k.a. KoolHerc is the perfect example of how anyone can cause a ripple in society.

34

CAMPUS PLUS

The Hip-Hop Culture #1 DJ-ing The technique of manipulating and creating music using turntables and DJ mixers is known as turntablism. This is where DJs create hiphop by isolating “breaks”, which are the parts of a song that focuses on the beats. Most of the time, DJs will use two turntables simultaneously. These turntables will be connected to a DJ mixer and other electronic music equipment. The tricky part is when a DJ performs using two albums, combining two songs into one. During the early years of hip-hop, DJs were labelled as celebrities! That was until rapping showed up.

#2 Rapping Rapping is the chanting of rhyming lyrics with a rhythmic accompaniment. It is broken down into three different components, content, flow, and delivery. Rapping is sometimes referred to as MCing, and MC-ing is a form of expression in the ancient African culture. Verbal acrobatics involving rhymes were also common inthe Afro-American community.

#3 Graffiti In the late 1960s, graffiti was used as an expression by political activists and gangs. But around 1970, graffiti went to New York City. This is when graffiti writers started adding their street number to their nickname, ‘bombing’ trains with their work, and filling the subway with art. The relation between graffiti and hip-hop is the understanding of graffiti as the visual expression of rap music. Graffiti will always be a part of hip-hop, even though it is making its way into the mainstream art circle throughout the world.

#5 Beatbox

Cipher

Beatboxing was popularised by Doug E. Fresh, and is commonly understood as the art of creating beats using the human mouth.

Standing in a circle, dancers take turns to step into the centre and perform a sequence of moves with the rest cheering them on.

Did you know that the term beatboxing was actually coined from the first generation of drum machines known as beatboxes?

Breaking

Beatboxing was quite popular in the 1980s but its popularity declined in the late 1980s. However, it made a comeback in the later 1990s and it has ever since been a skill many would like to acquire.

#6 Hip-hop fashion Also known as urban fashion, this a distinctive style of dressing that originated from the African American youth. Even though it has changed over the years according to the fashion trends, it still retains its expressions and attitude of hip-hop. From bright coloured bomber jackets to throwback jerseys to skinny low jeans and to eye-catching bling, hip-hop fashion has been adopted by people all around the world.

It is a physically demanding and advanced set of routines involving stunts that require flexibility, strength, grace, and agility.

Locking Locking will have dancers locked in a certain position or step before moving on to the next. The set of movements will be stilted instead of a smooth flow.

Popping A series of strong and fast contraction and relaxation of muscles, made using the neck, chest, arms and legs. Hip-hop stays fresh because it’s constantly evolving!

Hip-Hop Dances Freestyle Movement It uses beat, melody, rhythm, lyrics, and other aspects of a song to determine the moves. There’s no choreography involved and everything is improvised

Battles Battles are done between two individuals or crews. Simply put, it is an informal dance contest where dancers perform freestyle or choreographed routines. Most of the time, the winner is chosen by the crowd.

#4 Breaking In 1924, a performer named Earl Tucker created a dance style that inspired an element of hip-hop known as B-boying. Also called breaking and breakdancing, this is a dynamic dance style that started in the South Bronx. It borrows from many different cultures including the 1930s street dancing.

How to.. Part 1 By Jeyna Lim

Rocking Out With Floor Work One of the most basic breaking moves is the 6-step. It is the base for other complex moves in breaking. A 6-step usually opens a dance and it is followed by a power move. Over the years, it has been modified with different variations such as the 5-step, 7-step and head step. The 6-step is similar to walking in a circle on the ground. This move requires you to use your arm to support your body, and it is not a hard move to learn.

Step 3 Pull your left leg up to the position shown in the picture. While your left hand still supports your body off the ground

Step 4 Swipe your right leg into your left leg as if your right leg wraps around/in front of your left leg while changing hands to your right hand to support your body

Step 5 Pull and place your left leg to the back while your right hand pushes your body upwords.

MY EVERYTHING Lee MinHo

MONOCHROME Lee Hyori

In the midst of the dance-driven K-Pop industry, listening to Lee MinHo’s latest album, My Everything, is like a breath of fresh air. Containing 7 songs, one of which is an instrumental version of Without You, the album is made for easy listening with songs ranging from happy pop songs to ballads. Not a bad effort for a first album from the actor turned singer. Top tracks include You and I, My Little Princess and Love Motion.

Lee Hyori’s fifth studio album takes on multi genres, from R&B, pop, country, cabaret and more, so there’s bound to be something for everyone. It’s impressive that she manages to carry her vocals to suit the different genres in the 16 tracks. She offers a cabaret style in Wouldn’t Ask You, dance-pop in Bad Girls, country in Bounced Checks of Love, R&B in Love Radar and 60s Motown in Holly Jolly Bus, just to name a few. Stand-outs are I Hate Myself and the duet with Honey-G’s Park JiYong, Amor Mio.

FOREVER YOUNG Seo InYoung

HYDE Vixx

Songs in Seo InYoung’s Forever Young album can be neatly categorised into two groups – dance and R&B. In the former, you have aptly-titled Let’s Dance, Anymore and I Want You Back, in which she does an impressive job with her vocal runs. She also shows off her vocals perfectly in the R&B track, Letter, and the ballad, Let’s Break Up.

Although HYE is categorised as a dance album, there are a couple of songs that are not of the dance genre. Outstanding are the emotional ballad Love Letter, where each of the boys show off their vocal prowess, and the R&B rap and groove collaboration with Minah from Girl’s Day titled You’re Mine. As for the dance tracks, to be honest, it all sounds the same after awhile.

It is clear that frontman Jared Leto meant for Love Lust Faith + Dreams to be melodramatic – from the first track, Birth, to the final song, Depuis Le Début, which actually means ‘from the beginning’ but has the Swan Lake theme (yes, where the lovelorn couple dies tragically at the end) playing on a music box.

#Willpower can be perfectly summed up in the lyrics of the album’s second track, Hello -“I just wanna have fun tonight, with all of my friends, all of my friends”, because that is precisely what Will.i.am did...have fun with friends.

#WILLPOWER Will.i.am

Eleven of the 15 tracks feature collaborations with artistes like Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Nicole Sherzinger, Eva Simmons, Skylar Grey, Miley Cyrus and more, and while I won’t say if there’s any musical merit, it is clear that Will.i.am is having fun, recording things that he likes, which right now sounds a lot like Europop. The only exception in the entire album is the first track, Good Morning, an ambient almostmeditative intro, after which your eardrums get into a rude shock for the rest of the album.

MOTHER Natalie Maines

BLOODSPORTS Suede

In her debut as a solo artiste, Natalie Maines, lead singer of Dixie Chicks, sounds like she belongs more in Lilith Fair than the CMA Music Festival. It’s a clear move away from her previous genre, something which the Chicks have done since being shunned by their country music peers over Maine’s infamous comment involving ex-President Bush and the Iraqi war. In Mother, comprising original songs as well as her take on covers (Jeff Buckley’s Lover, You Should Have Come Over, Eddie Vedder’s Without You, Pink Floyd’s Mother, The JayHawks’ I’d Run Away), Maines proves she’s not afraid to showcase her raw, almost grim vocals, especially in Free Life, Without You, Lover. Trained, Silver Bell and Come Cryin’ To Me.

Four commercially successful albums, one flopped record, a breakup, a reunion, and Suede now presents us with its latest, Bloodsports. Is the comeback worthwhile? Well, it does seem that lead singer-songwriter Brett Anderson is out of his fugue, although Suede’s albums in the 90s made a bigger musical impact. Still, Bloodsports feels like a revival of what Suede used to be – with the first half of the album decadently manic and the second half depressively gloomy, in a way only Suede knows how. Listen to the angst in Hit Me, Barriers, Snowblind, It Starts and Ends With You, and brood to Sometimes I Feel I’ll Float Away and Always.

COMEDOWN MACHINE The Strokes

PARAMORE Paramore

About 10 seconds into the album’s first track, I hit pause, looked up that same track on YouTube and even ejected the CD to check if I was, indeed, listening to The Strokes’ latest album. Why? It seems like the band has hurtled back into the 1980’s, a cross between shiny disco balls and the New Wave era, especially with Tap Out, Welcome to Japan, One Way Trigger and the aptly titled, Comedown Machine. In between, you’d find a couple of tracks, such as 50/50 and All The Time, that is decidedly The Strokes we know. And then the album closes with lead Julian Casablancas breaking into a falsetto in Chances and Happy Ending. Say what? Yes, my thoughts exactly. But at least no one could accuse the band of being boring.

Despite the self-titled album being less emo-punk and featuring more uppity beats, the band’s fourth album feels like a big middle finger intended for founding members and former bandmates, Josh and Zac Farro. Take Interlude: Moving On for example; ‘Let ‘em spill their guts, ‘Cos one day they’re gonna slip on ‘em’; or even Ain’t It Fun with ‘So what are you gonna do, When the world don’t orbit around you?’. That being said, the music in this album, is surprisingly upbeat. In Ain’t It Fun, there’s even a gospel choir backing lead Hayley Williams. Other top tracks include Fast In My Car, Still Into You, Hate To See Your Heart Break, (One Of Those) Crazy Girls and Grow Up.

Time & Tide Waits For No Man By Shahril Bahrom

If you are a fan of post-hardcore/alternative rock music, there’s no need to look beyond our own shores. Local college band Time & Tide pulls out all the stops to bring passionate emotive vocals, chaotic breakdowns, as well as heartfelt lyrics to listeners. In this exclusive interview, the band members shares stories of their trials and tribulations in a highly competitive music industry. The band comprises of Aiman Syafiq Alwi on vocals, Putera Zamir as lead guitarist, Oli May on Bass, and Ozzie on drums. Initially a two-man band, Aiman met Zamir through mutual friends in 2011. The pair sought a release from their former bands to play the style of music they are mutually passionate about. After some elbow-rubbing, Time & Tide was born.

over guitar and bass. When Oli and Ozzie joined up, the band set to work on its digital EP titled ‘3’ with a mission to re-shape the post-hardcore genre in Malaysia. In 2012, Time & Tide started performing at adrenaline-pumping gigs like ‘Rock The World 2012’ where it won the RTW12 Studio Jam Tour KL Division. It got to play alongside more established bands like Hujan, Incarnation, and I, Revival at the Northern Music Festival 2012.

“We find that our toughest challenge is in preserving ourselves as a band, “ says Zamir. “At some point, this becomes a business and there will be many temptations to sell out for money. Our advice to new bands is, try and strike a balance between the business and creative parts.”

“The name Time & Tide is meant to be symbolic” “The name Time & Tide is meant to be symbolic in nature, with an ocean theme. It’s to express life experiences of the band, and giving our listeners something to relate to in song. Just like life, time is flexible but never stops, while tide refers to the consistent ocean theme of some of our favourite metal bands,” Zamir said during the interview.

When asked if the band would see a theme change in the future, Zamir said: “Change is inevitable. But we will not stray too far from our original sound.”

With support from family and friends, as well as the influence of the music they love, the pair went to work writing day and night to create their first single, Mannequinne. They enlisted the help of Subhuman Productions to record the single where Aiman handled drums and vocals while Zamir took

VERONIKA DECIDES TO DIE Paulo Coelho In order to appreciate life, one must taste death With a bottle of pills in her hands, she begins her journey of dying. Veronika takes the pills, one by one, and savours the moment until she feels complete darkness enveloping her.

T

hat’s what happened to Veronika, who tries to take her own life because she wanted to die. A seemingly perfect young woman, with everything going for her, Veronika feels the void inside her growing bigger and bigger each day – until one day, she decides to give in to that little voice inside her head.

Veronika decides to die. But she instead wakes up in a mental hospital. She’s told that while she didn’t manage to die, she only has a few more days to live as her suicide attempt has left her heart severely damaged. With little left to lose, Veronika embarks on a journey of self-

exploration and discovery. She frees herself to experience what she has never dared to before - the emotions of hatred, love, curiosity, fear, sexual awakening. She makes friends at the mental hospital and finds that insanity is just a reflection of society’s perception on what is normal and what is not. It’s interesting to know that the book is based on events in Coelho’s life. The story ultimately questions where is the thin line between sanity and insanity. In a world where societal conformation is a norm, is one

considered mad because one can’t seem to adjust to a social structure that does not tolerate individuality? We’re often told that mad people are placed in asylums to shield them from danger, but what if the danger really is the society and not the asylum patients? Within the confines of the asylum, Veronika and the patients are able to explore freely on their perception of madness and sanity. It is this exploration, without fear or judgement, that sets them on the path of realisation of what it means to live.

It is then that Ben reappears, reminding Lottie of their pact, and they both decide to march up to the altar, and head for a honeymoon on a Greek island where they first met. Sounds like a great plan. But of course, not everyone shares their excitement, especially Lottie’s sister, Fliss, and Ben’s friend, Lorcan, who have made it their mission to stop the insanity.

n his latest book, Hosseini weaves together layers of stories to create a rich tapestry of painful history and enduring bonds set across Kabul, Paris, San Francisco and the Greek island

of Tinos. The stories – siblings painfully separated as children, jealousy between a pair of twins, the marriage of an older Kabul merchant to a younger Westernthinking poet, the quiet intimacy between a servant and employer – are set amid a backdrop of the glittering Westernised Kabul. The city is later ripped apart by war and turmoil, as the tales unfold to reveal the irrevocable consequences of each action and the struggles that remain.

FREE HUGS WITH EVERY BIG HUG BURGER By Shahril Bahrom

Decor

Big Hug Burger boasts a homely living room interior. It has one section with sofas and low tables, another with high tables and bar stools, and yet another with smaller square tables enough for two for a more intimate dining experience. Warm yellow lights wash through the restaurant with ambient charm and its walls boast nostalgia with an acoustic guitar, steel buckets that hold plants and flowers, ceramic plates, and other artsy memorabilia. Contemporary pop music by Jessie J, Bruno Mars, etc. playforth from the speakers. This isn’t such a surprise as one of the restaurant owners is a graphic artist and a former children’s art school teacher!

Most of you won’t expect a hug from a restaurant owner when you enter the shop, but at Big Hug Burger, this is a warm and welcoming experience. After that, you feel even more comfortable as you sit on the soft sofas or cuddle the giant teddy bear that occupies one of the tables there.

Food

For those of you who have yet to dine at Bug Hug Burger, you are in for a treat. On one hand, the burger size-toprice ratio is well worth your money. At the price range of Big Hug Burger’s burgers, the patty size served is fair enough. On the other hand, the restaurant owners focus on featuring comparatively healthier ingredients on the menu -- from wholemeal buns to grass-fed Australian beef and fresh corn-oil. Three kinds of burgers are offered: your choice of beef, chicken, or fish, cooked with different condiments and sauces. For example, the Cheesy Chicken Burger is a grilled chicken fillet burger with cheese sauce. If you like fish, there's also the salmon fillet and battered dory burgers. Last but not least, what is a burger meal without sides? Classic French fries never go out of style. Big Hug Burger’s fries come with herbs sprinkled on them and have a soft, fluffy texture instead of the crispy type that some might prefer. If you’re tired of boring old fries, try the Cheesy Wedges or Onion Rings.

Location & service

Big Hug Burger is fairly easy to find. It’s right opposite the Taylor’s Business School campus near Subang Square shopping gallery in SS15, Subang Jaya. But ibe warned: at peak hours, the queue can get really long. One blogger said there have been customers who had to wait for about two hours to get their food. You know what they say: all good things come to he that waits! And, it starts with a hug. CAMPUS PLUS

MALACCA

Of Historical Sites and Fort Rubbles

W

hen it comes to a Malaysian city that is rich with history, one does not have to look further than Malacca. The small state’s capital was listed as a World Heritage City by Unesco in July 2008, a feat achieved after four years of consecutive bids to the international body. The city is an eclectic mix of historical sites and fort rubble, all bearing stories of the colourful, and sometimes bloody, past of the conquerors and colonialist powers of the Southeast Asia region. Visiting the historical city, as Malacca City is tagged at today, is a relaxed weekend outing.

Getting There

A

s Malacca is only 150km away from Kuala Lumpur, driving there takes only 1.5 hours via the North South Expressway (exit Ayer Keroh toll). That’s the most convenient mode of transportation. But if driving isn’t an option, you have the option of using several bus operators running the Kuala Lumpur – Malacca route. Tickets are priced between RM12 – RM13 for a oneway journey, which takes about 2 hours. The buses depart every half hour from the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan at Bandar Tasik Selatan (accessible via LRT and KTM Komuter) and

MUST DO’S

Melaka River Cruise See the sights of Malacca at a leisurely pace with the river cruise. Comes with an audio commentary and offers new perspectives of the historical city. Board the cruise at either the Muara Jetty (next to Quayside Heritage Centre) or Taman Rempah Jetty (next to Hang Jebat Bridge). Cost: RM10 (45 minutes). Tel: 06-281 4322/23

Trishaw Ride Explore the city on a kitschy trishaw, if nothing but for novelty sake. The drivers are friendly and some even act as guides. Going price is RM40 an hour, but do confirm the amount before boarding. Explore the colonial quarter with its historical sites looming over you majestically – A Famosa, St. Paul’s Church, Dutch Square, Stadthuys and Christ Church. Other sites: Don’t forget Chinatown

and Jonker Street (also known as Jalan Hang Jebat), where you’ll find streets dotted with mini-museums, art galleries, cafes and shops selling touristy souvenirs and antiques of questionable authenticity. On weekend nights, the street comes alive with a night bazaar with many a stall peddling wares and local delicacies. It’s a fun walk through.

Kaki Seni Festival

ell known Malaysian arts portal Kaki Seni recently brought the arts alive with the week-long KakiSeni Festival, showcasing the various forms of performing arts in the country. Held in and around the Bukit Bintang area, the festival, which was held from April 22 to April 30, was done to provide a space to highlight the various forms of creative arts in the world but also as a lead up to the Boh Cameronian Awards which took place on May 1. The Boh Cameronian Awards, also organised by Kaki Seni, aims to celebrate outstanding performances in dance, music, theatre and musical theatre performed in the year before. The Kaki Seni festival saw a wide array of events being held such as circus acts, singing, busking, the setting up of a black box theatre stage inside the Pavilion Shopping Centre and workshops. The highlight of the week was a street-long parade encircling the shopping mall that included all the events featured that week.

Aside from the showcase of a wide variety of visual and performing arts, the festival also included a workshop series that discussed the importance of performing arts in the modern day. The subject most noted was the topic of ‘The Role and Purpose of an Arts Council’. The discussion, which revolved around the importance of an arts council to the growth of the arts scene in a city or state, featured an international panel comprised of Sarah Gardner, Executive Director of the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA), Sadayuki Higuch, freelance Arts Administrator, Japan and Audrey Wong, former nominated Member of Singapore Parliament. The session, which lasted nearly 2 hours, also saw the panel sharing success stories from across different countries, which could be used by the local Malaysian arts councils. The session was chaired by BFM radio presenter, Sharaad Kuttan.

Mini Boot Camp at KDU

he KDU University College’s School of Communication and Creative Arts arranged a special mini boot camp for students aspiring to make it big in the entertainment industry. They managed to bring in popular names such as Amber Chia, Hunny Madu, Sharifah Aleya, and Kieran from HOT FM, all of whom are no strangers to the entertainment scenes, to make special appearances. Participants of the session gained an insight into the industry; from modelling, hosting, acting, grooming, broadcasting, and more. They also had the chance to meet and speak with the celebrities as well as make new friends. The KDU School of Communication and Creative Arts engage its students in hands on experiences, giving them the right amount of exposure. Students will learn how to market, brand, and position themselves in this competitive industry as the syllabus is carefully crafted to allow progression into undergraduate studies and in performing arts as well as communication and media studies.

PJ Laugh Fest Niamah Sutra A ctor and radio personality Patrick Teoh, together with stand-up comedian Douglas Lim, put on a gut-busting parody of the typical Malaysian’s views on racism and politics (two things everyone in this country has an opinion about) that will surely leave you laughing until you eventually ‘black out’ from lack of oxygen. Niamah Sutra tells its Malaysian audience to embrace all the things that make us Malaysians, like speaking English in our native accents, blaming the government for everything, and making stereotypical jokes about each other, with each other, over a glass of teh tarik. The entire show was presented in good humour of course, and both Patrick and Douglas pulled it off without a hitch.

Remind yourself to do your best and not worry about the outcome. That way, you won’t have a reason to stress over everything, and you will be assured you’ve done your level best.

#1 Plan! #3 You are

Even though procrastination is like a tempting cupcake, don’t fall for it. Always plan when it comes to assignments, group work, and exams. With planning, you will be prepared for whatever comes your way. And, you will know what you want and where you’re heading. Planning does not mean you are immune to failure, but at least you have backup plans to help you succeed. When you are sure of what you are doing, you will be confident enough to tackle your assignments like a professional wrestler.

talented, remember that!

Take time to recognise your talents and good qualities. There is a reason why group assignments are given in courses, and the reason is to let everyone express their talents in a group. You may be good at research; your friend may be good at art, while another could be good at presenting. When all of you come together it’s a group of talented people shining their own light.

Yes, some might see that as pride, but there is a difference between being proud and accepting compliments. We all deserve to be praised for excelling and it’s not wrong to humbly accept a pat on the back when you’ve done well.

#5 Look Confident! This does not just apply to the way you dress, but the way you carry yourself. A confident person has their head up and their shoulders back. They may not be the most fashionable person, but they speak boldly and confidently. They are not acting but just showing their real personality to everyone! Be yourself and let the real you come out. Why Is Confidence Important? For a freshie, confidence will help you make new friends, get acquainted with your course quickly, and help you transition from high school to college. Your confidence will prepare you to face the new challenges of a campus life, giving you courage to try new things. It is really important for you to adapt quickly, and if you have confidence you won’t have a problem with that! As for students who have been in college for a few years, confidence will keep you going strong! You may have started off college full of confidence, but after a few years you realise that you don’t speak up and share your thoughts anymore. It is important for you to regain your confidence as it will push you to do better. College might get boring or mundane, but with confidence you will always find something fun to do. After all, these are the years where you would have the most fun! If you are in your final year or semester, confidence is really important. You will need confidence to finish up your final papers, test the waters of the working world through your internship, and start preparing to leave your college life for the real world. Confidence will keep you calm despite stress hammering at your door. College is where you prepare yourself for the working environment, which may not be as carefree. There will be more people to deal with, more demands from those around you, and definitely more commitments. Without confidence in yourself and your abilities, it will be hard to survive. Use these five tips to start training your confidence!

It’s taken the world by storm, this thing we call MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). The combination of various martial disciplines into this one art, wrapped in a competitive 6-sided arena, now has about 16 million strong following in the United States.

What is MMA?

challengers. That’s us. So the brand matchup goes very well. It’s definitely a positioning with a community which is probably a million people in and around the MMA community. It’s definitely associating ourselves with those kind of people. And I think that’s perfect for us because as this is the fastest growing sport in the world, sooner or later, other people are going to want to get into the game.”

It’s the combination of moves from various martial arts that generally fall within the same category. The 2 general categories are said to be Striking and Grappling techniques, while wikipedia mentions 3 areas which are Standing, Clinch and Ground. The combination of arts most often employed by fighters are mainly from muay Thai, karate, jiu jitsu,jJudo, wrestling, boxing and sambo. What makes MMA unique as an art form is that, with the various combinations, there is no definite style. One fighter may well have a silat-judo-wrestling background while his opponent may have a kung fu-Brazillian-ju jitsu background and go into a fight with something different. In fact, 2 opponents with the same background may still have different styles in the ring. The only style in MMA is essentially, no style. The father of MMA in the US is essentially none other than... the late, great Bruce Lee. His philosophy of combining the best aspects of various martial arts into his creation of the Jeet Kune Do kung fu, and the style of training that he employed to teach this art, was the seed of today’s MMA. This point was noted by President of UFC, Dana White in her 2004 speech: “Actually, the father of mixed martial arts was Bruce Lee. If you look at the way Bruce Lee trained, the way he fought, and many of the things he wrote, he said the perfect style was no style. You take a little something from everything. You take the good things from every different discipline, use what works, and you throw the rest away.” Who knew the father of “Hai-yaaaaah!” would go on the spawn an entire competitive industry! But indeed, as he taught, one must know how to fight.

MMA in Malaysia….

MMA came to the public eye in Malaysia last year thanks to Astro on its Fox channel. The popularity was a slow burner until MIMMA (Malaysian Invasion Mixed Martial Arts) took place. 68

The largest amateur MMA competition showcased a different facet of the competitive sport – the gore and adrenaline. The event, which was sponsored by telco provider TuneTalk, saw competitors go all out in a 12 round tournament. For those who were there, it was an event overflowing with adrenaline. In an interview with Campus Plus, TuneTalk CEO Jason Lo explained the telco’s reasons for sponsoring the fight show. “There are millions of martial arts practitioners in Malaysia. People doing taekwondo or karate. They are large associations. There are 250 gyms in Malaysia where martial arts of some form is taught. SQUASH WARRIOR

By Dinesh Menon

There is something special about squash players. On the court, they’re in a state of hyper-focus, driven by a roaring will. But when I met Low Wee Wern, currently the World’s No. 6 squash player, I was struck by her easy-going, friendly attitude. 70

T

he second Malaysian female squash player to reach the top 10 rung of the world squash table is, in our view, well on her way to reaching the coveted number one spot. She has the makings of a squash warrior, ever ready for competitive battle.

Being the 2nd only Malaysian to achieve that is an amazing feeling. The British Junior Open victory was bittersweet. I’ve played that tournament since I was 11 but I just could not manage to win it. I’ve made the semifinals or the finals every single year but I just could not win it! Thank God I finally won it on my last year!

You began playing squash at age 9. Why squash? It was more of a weekend activity to keep me occupied. My mum gave me two options - tennis or squash. It was partly because my parents were just divorced then and she wanted to let me have something ‘fresh’. So I chose squash, not knowing what it was, to be honest. Tennis is very dependent on the weather and I can’t play alone. So, squash, played indoors, was a better option.

At which point did you realise squash would be more than a game? What made me believe I could be one of the top squash players in the country was when I won the Asian Junior Championships three times, making me the only other Malaysian who achieved that besides Datuk Nicol David. It wasn’t an easy decision to turn down scholarships from renowned universities in United States and to choose squash instead. What was the first squash tournament you entered? It was a National Junior Interstate and I was 10 years old, competing in the Under 15 category. I lost to a national player in about 10 minutes and that was my first match, first loss! Not a great start! At this point, you’ve won three Asian Junior Championship titles and the prestigious British Junior Open. How does that feel? Well, winning the Asian Junior Champs three times was definitely the highlight of my junior career.

Nicol is the World No. 1 player. How much does she influence you and your game? Nicol is a good friend of mine, and it’s an honour to be travelling with her and to play on the same team. She is always there when I have a bad game and she knows how to deal with all that as she has been through it herself. She is a great role model not just to squash players, but to all athletes in general. Who else is an inspiration in your life? Nicol is more like a role idol than inspiration to me, to be honest. Roger Federer is my other favourite sportsperson as he is just a legend on and off court. But my inspiration is my mum, sister and coach. They have done so much for me and guided me from day one, and I owe it to them to be the best that I can be.

How much of time did squash take up when you were in school? I started representing Penang at the age of 10 and Malaysia just before I turned 11. I travelled quite a bit for tournaments and would be absent from school for at least two months in a year. I remember taking all my exams on the same day until 6pm so I could fly off the next morning for a tournament! Also, I was training every day and would go to the squash court straight from school. How did you balance the demands of school and sports? I was in a government school up until I completed my UPSR. It was tough being away from school and trying to catch up all the time. Fortunately, I was offered a scholarship to study at a private school in Penang when I was 13 and it was much more flexible. The teachers fully supported my squash career and would prepare my homework in advance so I could take it along with me when I travelled for tournaments. But on normal days, I would go to school in the morning, get as much work done as possible in school, head for training right after and would continue the balance of my work at night after dinner.

Once that is set, then the determination comes in. It’s not always going to be a smooth sailing path but in the end it is worth it. Then again, there is no substitute for hard work. Talent can only take you this far and the rest boils down to utter hard work.

How do you balance having a professional career and a normal life? It is basically how bad you want to succeed. I do still hang out with my friends, have coffee, watch movies, chill by the beach but all that is done around my training schedule. If I do have a night out with friends, I will be home by 11pm, so I could have enough rest for training the next morning. What is your personal motto that keeps you going? To be the best that I can be. Onwards and upwards is my motto in life. What were the factors, in your opinion, that aided you in achieving this feat? I worked very hard to be where I am at today. It’s not always easy waking up to a painful run session and then spend 4 hours on a squash court, day in and day out, six days a week. Many sacrifices were made to get me where I am at today. But I couldn’t have done this alone. My coach, Aaron Soyza, was there from the start and he too played a major part in my career. He used to pick me up from school to go to the squash courts and spent hours making me a better player. My mum and sister were always very supportive as well. But as a person, I am very determined to achieve my goals. I set my goals and also the ways and what needs to be done in order to achieve it. What do you think is your competitive advantage? On court, I think my stronger point is that I generally move quite well on court with speed and agility, which is a great help. I tend to be quite patient as well, compared with many other players and do not get affected or distracted easily when I am playing. What are winning traits that everyone should have to achieve success in anything they do? First thing is to have a target or a goal. Without that, there is no real direction and you can’t figure out what to do leading up to what you want to achieve.

How do you handle defeat? Accepting a loss is never easy. Life on the professional squash tour can be quite brutal, I must admit. There are sleepless nights after a bad game and it takes a couple of days to actually recover from it. But what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. Easier said than done though! How should students handle defeat in such a way that inspires them to move forward? Live and learn. We all make mistakes and learn from it, but the will and determination will take you through. It’s not how many times you fall, but the number of times you get up and charge forward that matters. What is your plan for this year? To break top 5 in the world rankings and being able to play that level of squash consistently. Any advice for students? Know what you want to achieve and work hard towards your goals. To succeed in life, we all need a plan, a vision. There will be hiccups and setbacks along the way, but only the best will be determined enough to keep working hard and eventually get there, when the rest have already given up a long time ago. Most important, stay true to yourself and always be humble!

It’s Yan For Dance by Mac

Street dancing as a career? Really? Campus Plus chats with Sabah-born Fellest Yan whose love for dance overshadowed his education as an engineer. This 30-year-old now owns his own dance studio, is a choreographer, dance director, street dance event organiser and an entrepreneur. Tell me a little about yourself. I’m actually from an engineering background but dancing has attracted me since I was about 15 What made you want to learn how to dance? It was street dancing that sparked my interest at first. I was very attracted by the energy and the flexibility of the whole dance. I also had a good understanding of music, and because of this I could understand other dance styles although I major in street dance. So what do you do today? It’s all about dance and then everything else about dance – from teaching to providing dancers for shows and events. We, my dance crew and I, also organize dance competitions, dance activities that would help to boost the Malaysian dance scene by raising dance standards. Was this the original career plan? No. It was planned for me to work with my father as an engineer. I never knew that dance will take me down this path. When I first stepped into this path, it was never about the future and how profitable it was going to be, it was just about pure passion. What is the best part about your job? Any setbacks? Well the best part of my job is the art that I am passionate about so I get to live and work through what I’m passionate about. It’s not boring, it’s very interesting and it’s my personal interest so that is the best part about it. The set back is that street dance is still not an art that is much appreciated by society, but there’s more acceptance today. Some people still have misconceptions about street dance. They think street dancing is not part of our Malaysian culture. But when we trace the history of street dancing, it is shared by the whole world. Street dance comprises different dance styles and different dance moves. Your view on the current professional dance scene in Malaysia? Many youngsters are actually really good and talented dancers so I’m pretty sure their mindset is pretty much like me. Sooner or later they realise ‘hey! I’ve been dancing and been a dancer for a while now... seems like this is my future and this is my career’ without realising it has become a part of their career.

How do you make dance a career? You can either become a very well-known dancer, or a choreographer, or then reach for the international stage where you will be dancing for big artistes like Beyoncé. I used to be a Michael Jackson dancer. You can go on to become a super dancer people know about and enter the mainstream commercial line or you can also become a very successful underground dancer where you join different competitions, and win them. Your job is improving yourself to win more and more competitions. You will soon get people inviting you to judge their events or to teach workshops overseas. You could also resolve to have a dance studio where you could teach and at the same time make it a dance agency where you cater for events and corporate shows.

What can students do now? Find the right studio with the right instructor to give you the proper knowledge of dance, who will teach you how to teach yourself instead of just learning and not going any further. You could learn from teachers who have studied in that type of dance, in any country. You don’t need to fly there! If you can find people who have had good teaching and been influenced by the pioneers, you’ll get the right information. That would definitely give you a good foundation to build on to become a really good dancer. You have to learn to become a teacher yourself. That would be the ultimate way to improve your dance skill and your knowledge as a dancer.

"to have the passion and drive to continue dancing" What skill/attitude is necessary when starting out in this career line? One word, one phrase -- really believe in what you are. People might not see that dance as a career path, that it might not have a bright future. Take the negative criticisms and turn into them into positive. Just keep believing in what you are doing and soon you will realise it is not as hard as you thought. And best of all you are able to enjoy what you are doing. That’s the most important part. And the skills? Your dance skill is very important because you are a dancer – never forget that. You need to have a good knowledge about the dance and then you can be involved in the dance scene. When you are in the business side, you must be professional. You need to in cooperate in terms of communication, feelings and your work ethics. While you are working on a show, for events or concerts or even a mere meeting with a client, you should incorporate professionalism. Some people say ‘I’m a soloist. I don’t need to manage a crew’. Hey, you have to manage your own self. Your finances, your schedule, your timetable management, etc.

Club Scene

LUST KL By Shahril Bahrom

Speaking figuratively, indulge yourself at this hotspot in Kuala Lumpur named after one of the seven deadly sins. When you feel like putting your party hat on, head over to Lust. It’s a quick stroll from Changkat Bukit Bintang, just opposite No Black Tie and Palate Palette on Jalan Nagasari. The club greets all its patrons with a wash of purple neon lighting at its main entrance, a sign that your night is about to get wild.

1

Venue

As you enter this den of dance and drinks, the first things you’ll notice are two bars; one on the left and one on the right. The one on the left is nothing short of a slab, glowing bright neon blue that will envelope any of its occupants in that same light. The bartender is constantly juggling mixing flasks to keep you entertained. The bar on the right is more reminiscent of a sports bar with a flat-screen TV floating just above the shelf of liquor bottles. Between the two bars is a floor dotted with high tables. Further in, there’s a dance floor that would easily fit more than 50 clubgoers and dominating the section is the stage and DJ console, raised to overlook the entire club.

Music

Lust sticks to the safe formula of R&B, hip-hop, house, and electro tunes. A jazz band or two gracing the stage wouldn’t hurt either. The whole place could be turned into a jazz club overnight in our opinion, but let’s leave that to the club’s owners. Every Friday, Milk Club resident DJs Alex and Rayrox (or A-ROX) works the turntables with their own brand of hip-hop and R&B. Other DJs who occasionally grace Lust’s stage are local hip-hop moguls such as Joe Flizzow and SonaOne.

Dining

Lust does not fall short when it comes to dining as it tries to combine the best elements of dining and clubbing, all under one roof. An alfresco area just next to the entrance is there for early-birds to line their stomachs with a mishmash of Western and Spanish favourites, from steaks to seafood. Although not an original concept, it deserves some credit for the effort.

Events

For all the working class yuppies out there, the club holds a ‘No Tie After Five’ happy hour every Monday to Friday from 5pm to 9pm, bringing forth drink promos. Saturdays rewards those who dress up in uniform with RM1,000 worth of prizes for the best dressed couple.
