Tip of the Month

Course lessons Do you have a favorite and a nemesis hole? Do you play great on the range, but have a completely different game on the course? If you do, you may benefit from taking a course lesson. There are many reasons why the game on the course could not go as planned, but the most common errors I see are poor club selection, incorrect alignment, ineffective pre-shot routine, poor green reading skills, and finally swing errors. In addition to this, I notice that not everyone understands how to apply the rules of golf correctly, so this gets addressed during the round as well. Every course lesson is different, but the one thing I look for is to see if you are applying the things you are working on correctly or if you are getting overwhelmed by something and thus forgetting to take your time to fully process all the information that is available to you that could help you hit a good shot. The following chart shows what a course lesson might look like based on different handicaps, you could use it to identify your own strengths and weaknesses and start working on them, even without taking a lesson. If you wish to have an extra set of eyes, you are welcome to book a lesson by calling the golf shop and asking for lesson information. BEGINNER

Discover World Heritage ~ Shirakawago & Hida Takayama

The Gassho-style houses found in the Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama are rare examples of their kind in Japan. Located in a river valley surrounded by the rugged high-mountain Chubu region of central Japan, these three villages were remote and isolated, and access to the area was difficult for a long period of time. The large houses have steeply-pitched thatched roofs and have been preserved in groups, many with their original outbuildings which permit the associated landscapes to remain intact.

Here’s a Tip

Did you know you can use your A/C to defog the inside of the windows during winter? All you have to do is switch on the A/C when the heater is on. The A/C helps with drying out the air in the car which helps keep the windows from fogging up. And be sure to have the vents in the “re-circulation” mode and not “outside air” mode, this helps with warming up the inside of car faster.

School Age Center (SAC) is a great before and after school program for children in grades one to six. There are a wide variety of activities for children in our community throughout the year. SAC offers a variety of care options to include before and after school, hourly, open recreation, and full day for no school and camp programs (winter, spring and summer). Summer Camp is sold in ten weekly packages. Included are meals, snacks, high adventure activities, and weekly field trips. School Age Center has been an active unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America promote positive youth development through the provision of opportunities for young people to develop the skills they will need to become successful and contributing members of our communities.

Youth Center

Youth have the opportunity to assist with creating new programs that peak their interest. Field trips occur on a regular basis and include action/adventure parks, skiing/snowboarding trips, swimming, and other fun activities around Japan. The Youth Center is open to all youth in grades 7th through 12th grade.

Youth Sports & Fitness

Youth Sports and Fitness Program was developed to meet your children’s recreation and athletic needs, emphasizing safety, participation, and fundamental good sportsmanship. Every program is designed to provide all youth the opportunity to participate, develop fundamental skills and grow in an atmosphere of sportsmanship, citizenship and teamwork. Eligible youth may participate in the sports program for a fee. When you register your children to participate, they will be assigned to a team, issued a basic uniform (all uniforms will be hand receipted to parents which must be returned at the end of the season ) and guaranteed a specific amount of playing time. If there are more than one teams in the 9-15 divisions, youth must attend a skills assessment meeting. Each sport season will end with an End of the Season Party which includes food & drinks, and a participation award. Volunteer coaches and officials are always needed. Volunteers are the backbone of all YSF sports programs. All sport fees will be waived for the Head Coach. Assistant coaches receive one child free and subsequent children multiple discount. Anyone interested, please contact the Youth Sports Office, DSN 263-5437. Volunteers should register at ArmyOneSource to be a volunteer coach. This site is the official site for volunteers to keep hours of volunteer time.
