St. Patrick’s Day away from home isn’t the same, right? Well, if you think so, you need to tell that to our Japanese friends. Thousands upon thousands of Japanese-Irishmen celebrate by hosting numerous events throughout the month! The biggest by far, is the Tokyo St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Omotesando with over 15,000 participants and 50,000 spectators. So, if you feel the need to “Get Your Green On”, there’s plenty of things to do in Japan. On the center pages of this month’s Bugle, we have some info (website too) on where to go. Check it out!

Nike RZN Golf Balls:
Your taste for the Nike RZN White will likely hinge on a couple of factors: Whether you prefer a soft or firm feel, and a low or high ball flight. Objectively speaking, this ball performs well in every category, earning especially high marks for its ability to penetrate the breeze and stop with the irons. Personally, we like it a lot. Buy 2 dozen, get 1 dozen FREE.

Tip of the Month
Sports & Leisure
One of the most common questions I get is where to place the ball with each club and while you may expect a simple answer, such as just put it in the middle or wherever your club hits the ground, the truth is that finding the ideal ball position is a very complex process and having OCD tendencies is not a bad thing, since extreme attention to detail and meticulous preparation are required. So, what are the factors that can influence the direction, height and overall contact with the ball? Ball Position If we trace the clubhead before, during and after impact an arc becomes visible. Since arcs don’t have straight lines, you can now start to understand why the ball position is so important, because your club travels directly down the target line for nothing more than a split second and if your ball is not in the right place, then how can you ever hit it straight without compensations. IN-OUT – If you place the ball back in your stance, you will hit the ball early in the arc, which is known as in-out. OUT-IN – If you place the ball forward in your stance, you will hit the ball late in the arc, which is known as out-in. STRAIGHT – If you place the ball in the ideal position, your club will travel straight down the target line.
Equipment Each club is designed differently and if you carefully place the sole of each club flat on the ground, you will notice that the shaft on the short irons have the most forward lean, while the shaft on the driver sets up pretty much straight or may even be leaning away from the target (see image of 3 clubs). This explains why with short irons you see most players place the ball more in the center of their stance, with the hands forward and why with the woods, the ball is forward in the stance and you are standing tilted behind the ball. Angle of Attack You may have heard to hit down with irons and hit up on the ball with the driver and this is fairly good advice, but where most amateurs run into trouble, is when they start using the swing that works for one club on another club. For example, if you are good with your pitching wedge, but then you set up with your hands forward, the ball back in your stance with your driver, you are now going to hit it low, to the right or hit pop-ups, because the angle of attack is too steep. Also, if you used a driver set up for your wedges, you will probably hit it to the left, because you are catching the ball late in the arc, that is if you did not hit the ground first or top the ball, because the leading edge of the club is exposed too much. Ball Position The easiest way to improve ball position is through the following exercise. Make a practice T by placing two clubs on the ground. Place your front foot 2 ½ inches from the Center Line. Next, do the same with your back foot. Your feet should now be equal distance apart and ideal for the shortest club in your bag, such as a sand wedge. Now, move your back foot, 1” back for the pitching wedge. Continue to move the foot back 1” for every club. Once you get to the driver, you should be standing approximately 11” inches wider, but because the front foot never left its original place, now it appears as though the ball is forward in your stance. This is a very easy way to learn the correct position, however keep in mind that change does not and should not feel good. As a matter of fact, the more uncomfortable you are, the better it is. Also, keep in mind that you can’t judge a new technique based on a bad shot, because a bad shot is bad no matter what, but if you change your ball position and you hit a good shot and it’s better than before, then you know you should stick with it.. Get your GREEN on!
Every year on March 17, the Irish and the Irish-at-heart across the globe observe St. Patrick’s Day. What began as a religious feast day for the patron saint of Ireland has become an international festival celebrating Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green.
Did you know?
The Saint behind the Celebration
There are 34.7 million U.S. residents with Irish ancestry. This number is more than seven times the population of Ireland itself.
The man for whom St. Patrick’s Day is named was born into an aristocratic family in Roman Britain around the end of the fourth century. As a teenager, he was kidnapped by Irish pirates and taken to Ireland, where he was held as a slave for a number of years. He eventually escaped the island, only to return later as a missionary and convert part of the population to Christianity. Centuries after his death, which some sources cite as March 17, 461, although the exact date is unknown, Patrick became the patron saint of Ireland, and March 17 became a holy day of obligation for the nation’s Catholics.
Corned Beef & Cabbage Contrary to what many people might think, corned beef and cabbage, a staple at almost any St. Patrick’s Day celebration, isn’t the national dish of Ireland. The custom was started in the U.S. among the first generation of Irish-Americans. Immigrants yearning for familiar tastes of their homeland craved boiled bacon, but had to settle for beef brisket, the cheapest of meat cuts.
Leprechauns Leprechauns are wise beyond their years, bearded and notorious hoarders of gold, but what’s their significance to St. Patrick’s Day? The word leprechaun comes from an Irish word meaning shoemaker. In folklore, leprechauns are anything but dignified. Leprechauns traditionally play the role of tricksters in Irish storytelling. They can be ruthless, nasty and unpredictable.
Celebrating in Japan Japan has a surprisingly large number of St. Patrick’s Day events with parades in several cities. The largest by far is the Tokyo St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Omotesando with 15,000 participants and 50,000 spectators. The event features marching bands, cheerleaders and plenty of enthusiastic supporters.
St. Pattie’s Day in Japan *Here are some events happening in Japan. • Green Illumination ~ 16 February-17 March • Karakoro Art Studio, Matsue • Green Illumination ~ 1-17 March • Ise Shrine, Miyuki-doro Torii Gateway • “The Emerald Ball” ~ 1830 • 18 March • Tokyo • “I Love Ireland” Festival ~ 1000-1800 • 20 March • Tokyo St. Patrick’s Day Parade ~ 1300-1400 • 20 March

Irish Jokes
An Irishman was flustered not being able to find a parking space in a large mall’s parking lot. “Lord,” he prayed,” I can’t stand this. If you open a space up for me, I swear I’ll give up drinking me whiskey, and I promise to go to church every Sunday.” Suddenly, the clouds parted and the sun shone on an empty parking spot. Without hesitation, the man said, ”Never mind, I found one.” A Spanish singer chatting on television used the word “manana”. When asked what that meant, he said it means “maybe the job will be done tomorrow, maybe the next day, maybe the day after that, next week, next month or next year. Who cares?” An Irishman in the conversation, Shay Brennan, was then asked if there’s an Irish equivalent. “No. In Ireland we don’t have a word to describe that level or urgency.”
Did you know?
The New York City parade is older than the United States itself. It has been running since 1762. It’s a fully foot powered procession with no cars or floats allowed.
Did you know?
Up until the 1970’s, Irish laws mandated that pubs be closed on March 17. Now, imagine a St. Patrick’s Day without being able to go to a pub.
Easter Fun Facts The Easter egg is said to symbolize and represent joy, celebration and new life. Americans consume more than 16 million jelly beans during this holiday. That is enough jelly beans to circle the globe not once, not twice, but three times. During the holiday, more than 90 million chocolate bunnies, 91.4 billion eggs and 700 million Peeps are produced each year in the United States alone. Are you an ears, arms or tail person? Seventy-six percent of people eat the ears on the chocolate bunny first, 5 percent go for the feet and 4 percent for the tail.

Winter Tip of the Month
Now that the weather is getting warmer don’t forget to check the tire pressure. Having the incorrect tire pressure could cause bad fuel economy. With bad fuel economy you will unnecessarily spend more of your hard earned money you could spend on something else. SAFETY TIP: The tire pressure listed on some tires sidewall is NOT the recommended tire pressure but the MAXIMUM tire pressure and should not be inflated to this number. You can find the true tire pressure for your car on the driver side door opening. This is the vehicle manufacturer recommended tire pressure and should be used.
• Wash-N-Wax Service Our Wash-N-Wax service consists of a basic wash & wax of the outside only, with tire waxing included. There is a additional cost for cleaning the interior. For more information and fees, please stop by or give us a call.
Listed below is the metric “bar” to PSI (Pounds per Square Inch) “approximation” and some vehicles may have separate tire pressure for front and rear:
• Air Conditioning Services • Recharge Only: $35 (does not include gas) • Diagnostic Only: $45 • Full Service: $65 • Diagnostics & Labor *Does not include costs of replaced parts & A/C gas • A/C Services are done by appointment only
*Note: 2.5 and higher is normally for trucks and cargo vans.
23
1.0 = 14.5 psi • 1.5 = 22 psi • 2.0 = 29 psi 2.2 = 32 psi • 2.5 = 36 psi 4.0 = 60 psi is normally for the “donut” spare tire and not full size spare tire. The difference is a “donut” is usually yellow or orange with some black. European vehicles may have them in red.
