EVER BEEN TO KURE HARBOR? KURE RECREATION CENTER
During WWII, the Kure Naval District was Japan’s single largest naval base and arsenal, housing most of the city’s industry and workforce employed in the service of naval installations, munitions factories and other support functions. It is this strategic significance that drew a heavy and sustained Allied bombardment culminating in the Bombing of Kure in June and July 1945. Today, Kure continues to be a major maritime center hosting the dockyards of numerous shore based facilities of the JMSDF, gaining fame as a tourism enter featuring artifacts and mementos from the JMSDF museum of naval history. Come and visit Kure Recreation Center and immerse yourself in the beauty and history of Kure Harbor. Our facilities offer dining & bar services, a package store, gym, commissary, clean and convenient lodging at affordable rates.

Gym Etiquette
Learn It • Know It • Live It To bring some order to the mayhem and feel more confident at the gym, it’s helpful to know the basic code of conduct for gym-goers. Here are some easy but important things you can do to keep everyone, including yourself, safe and happy:
• Put everything back where it belongs ~ This could be the number-one gym etiquette rule. Don’t leave a trail of equipment behind you. If you use something, put it back. • Don’t hog the equipment ~ When the gym is crowded, equipment is like gold. This is especially true for limited equipment, such as squat and bench press racks. If you’re going to squat, then squat - don’t make people wait for you to take selfies or finish talking with a friend. If there’s no one around, feel free to use what you want. But the minute people start piling in, be willing to share. • Wipe things down after you use them~ This is basic gym etiquette and everyone else at the gym is begging you. Please wipe your sweat off of machines, barbells, floor mats and anything else you use. Even if you didn’t sweat that much, wipe it down. This helps reduce the smear of sweaty germs all across the equipment. • Bring your own towel ~ Just… do this. If you do nothing else on your list, bring your own towel to the gym. It might not sound like a big deal now, but you’ll realize how big of a deal it is when Sweaty McSweat finally leaves the machine you wanted but the tub of antimicrobial wipes is bone dry. In fact, you might want to bring two hand towels - one to wipe your own sweat and another to wipe up other people’s. It’s gross, but it’s unfortunately a fact of most commercial gyms. • Respect personal space ~ No matter how many people you’re battling, you should still make an effort to respect everyone’s personal space. Not only is it uncomfortable to exercise in close proximity with a stranger, it could also be dangerous - one failed attempt at an overhead press could spell broken feet for both of you. Practice your social distancing!

We have recently launched a “Growth Mindset” initiative in our program and in doing so, we have partnered with Zama PX who will be displaying SAC “Vision Boards 2021.” Each child will be creating goals for themselves by creating posters. Zama PX has offered to award one youth a $25.00 Gift Card who has the most creative poster. For more info, call 263-6013.
New Beginning of a Great Concept
This is just the beginning of our 12 month initiative. Each month, we will focus on different aspects that encompass each developmental domains that include social, emotional, physical and mental health with the children who attend SAC. Our goal is to remind the children and our community that despite the challenges we have all faced, when you have the right mindset, you can create something positive out of a negative. 48
